these are the ones that lay:
Hen- female chicken over 1 year of age
pullet-female chicken who's feathers have grown in thats less than 1

These don't lay

Rooster- Male chicken over 1 year of age
Cockeral- male chicken who's feathers have grown in thats less than one

chick-baby chicken who dosn't have feathers yet

A hen is a female bird. A chicken is a bird; therefore a female chicken (hen) lays eggs. "Hen" is the identity of a female bird.

A male chicken is called a Rooster, in case you're interested.
