Mourning doves, a species that mates for life, will seek out a new mate if their mate dies.

"In due course, the surviving mate will find a new mate. Since they nest several times a season, it's possible they will raise a successful brood in the same season. While it's sad to lose these birds in your yard, this is a part of nature and the birds will mate again."

The Mourning Dove is monogamous and forms strong pair bonds. Pairs typically reconvene in the same area the following breeding season, or sometimes may remain together throughout the winter. However, lone doves will find new partners if necessary.

some birds mate for life like swans or geese. if the mate dies it lives alone. I don't know if this is the case with doves, but I think that a new mate will probably come around in the spring. birds don't usually pair with each other in other seasons besides breeding season.
