I've been having my cockatiels for 2 years now and they won't eat fruit or vegetables. I give them fresh fruit & vegetables everyday but they wont touch it. I bought them from Petsmart and they were really mean and nasty when I got them. They have calmed down alot but they still wont eat fruit & vegetables no matter what kind I give them. Is it any way that I can get them to eat it?

Hi my budgie (4 years old approx.) has an increase in urine (the clear part of the dropping), I removed the veggies from his diet for almost 2 weeks (as they were fairly new since he had been a seed junky), but there was no change, so I gave them back. I had also switched him to bottled water from tap, so I tried changing that back, with no change. He is happy, active, talking, singing, eating well etc. Has this happened to anyone elses budgie, or any idea why this is? Something natural I could try? There isn't an avian vet anywhere remotely close to me, and frankly the vets around here know probably less than me about budgies. Thanks for any advice!

Whenever I whistle, or sing or talk in a high voice, my cockatiel (handfed and weaned, bought 3 days ago) shakes his head vigorously for a second. At first I thought it was the wind from my mouth blowing on him, but when I whistled with a cloth in between, or whistled turning the other way, or even from across the room, he'd shake his head whether his eyes are closed or just walking around.

I've bought handfed and weaned cockatiels before and they all seem to have their own little quirks, for ex. a pearl cockatiel that I once had would plunge his head down if I got near him, asking for scritches, even on the first day I bought him. He'd then peck my hand if I don't scritch him or I don't scritch him the right way. Could this be one of those quirks of my new cockatiel? Is there a way to un-train him to do that? I think it might have been something he was trained to do while he was handfed (accidentally, probably), but it's rather annoying to seem him shake his head every time I wh

hey guys i just bought a cockateil on 9/1/07. the petstore said it was hand fed. when i got the cockatiel it just stayed in one spot for the first day. then the next morning i saw it trying to get down from the perch cause i thihk it was too high. so i reached my hand in there to help him down. i think he bite me but i dont think it was hard. then i opened up his cage door and stared to whistle and then the came out and "flew" all over the place. he also has his wings cliped. i panicked and picked up him and stuck him back into his cage. now everytime i point my finger at him he acts like he is going to bite me. i should stop doing tat right. lol. then that night i stood in front of the cage for like 30 mins listenin to music. he was just licking his feathers and looking at me. then i read some stuff on internet, i noticed that he was getting sleepy. so i tried to keep the noise down but he keeps fallin in and out of his sleep. then i decided to move his cage to the corner of the room

I have just received my first bird as a pet. I don't know much about birds and what I'd like to know is, how can I tame my bird from biting and how can I build a trust between us? I would like it to trust me enough to perch on and off my hand when I tell it to. Your input is important.

Hi I have a Goffins Cockatoo and he seems to be plucking out his feathers and eating the roots of the feather where the straw part begins. He seems to be eating the straw part and the the stuff inside it which I think is blood in there. But he does not eat the feather. So I was wondering if you guys or gals might know why hes doing that?

I've had a cockatiel for about 3 yrs now. But the thing is i think he is lonely. He bites and hisses a lot because he isn't very social. He seems to be lonely and sometimes during the day he won't do much and he often sits in the corner of his cage. I was wondering if i did get another cockatiel for him how would he react? Would he hurt it if he didnt like it? and also do u think it is a good idea about getting another bird?
