First of all, do not give him any avacados, they are not good for the bird and can be toxic.
That said, there are a variety of fresh fruits and veggies that you can give him to keep him healthy and happy. A book on how to care for your parakeet should help you out with what you can give him. You can get these at a petstore, or check one out at your local library.
When you do try fresh fruits and veggies, remember to chop them small enough for the bird and wash them thoroughly before offering, and don't be discouraged if he doesn't eat them or throws them on the floor. I would offer the same thing for three days before trying new foods to determine if he likes them, as the new experiece of having fresh fruit might scare him a bit.
Oranges, bananas, apples, and strawberries are choices you might try to start out.

You can give your parakeets lots of fruits just NO seeds. Apples, Banana's,pears and so forth just remove the skin/peel. Do it in moderation because it can cause watery stools. Also FRESH veggies is great (frozen if you have no other choice at room temp but NEVER canned) anything you give to your bird do it in moderation and make sure it has NO salt or added sugars to it. You can also give them cooked pasta, rice, beans. DO NOT give alvacados, caffine, chocolate, uncooked meat/poultry,concentrated souces of salt or sugar(candy-olives-anchovies-chips and such), no fruit seeds or pits no salads that contain eggs mayonnaise meat fish or shellfish because tey develop bacteria really fast. However you can give hard cooked (boiled)eggs all types of berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) whole grain breads and lets not forget nuts(again not salted, candied or roasted).Peanut butter. I'd also like to add that birds have way less taste buds then we do so they can even eat hot spicy peppers again in moderation
But all these things are in ADDITION to their seed diet a bird with variety lives longer and is healither then a bird fed soley seed diets. If your bird will not eat what is offered to him its because its "new" or because of the location you have it in their cage. None of my birds will consume the foods I mentioned if they are placed in seed cups they must in my case be set between the bars for the smaller birds(parakeets) for my larger birds that are free roaming when I am home generally they are hand fed or its placed on top of their cage sometimes in a bowl they do not associate with seed

Your bird should enjoy fruit. If it does not like fresh fruit, ( some don't ) try cutting up some dried fruit for it.
Most kinds of fruit are safe, so be creative. Try watermelon, apples, cherries, pears, oranges ,peaches, and just about anything else. For dried fruits you can give dates, raisins, prunes, dried apricots ,cherries, mango or cranberries.
Be careful of additives in dried fruit. Sulfites are not good for your bird. For best results, dry the fruit yourself or get it at a health food store.
Be sure not to give avocados, apple seeds, peach seeds or apricot seeds. These can all be dangerous for your bird.
Good Luck.

well they like apples I know that, my parakeets LOVE apples, you can also give them other fruits except for the ones which have big seeds in them like tomatoes, strawberries are fine but when you give the apple cut it in wedges and take out the seeds, you do not need to peel of the skin
