New birds take a few days to adjust to their new surroundings. Parakeets are not heavy drinkers,so don't expect the water level to change dramatically.I can assure you, your birds will eat and drink, probably whilst you are not around them. If you are concerned, try hanging a millet spray close to where they are perching.Your birds will be fine. Just give them time to settle...

Right away, find out what food the parakeet was getting before you got him. If you're giving him something different, he may not know it's food. Then you can gradually change the food so that he gets used to what you want to feed him.
If the water is accessible, he is probably drinking some; but you could try giving him a bowl or different container too, just to be sure.

When you say you just got him,im going to assume the last couple of days.Birds dont react well to change, and I would give him more time to get used to you.Talk to a vet,as well,if he isnt seen eating soon. Please put fresh veggies/fruit in his cage,my birdies love fresh fennel, and i also use birdie charcoal in their food to aid digestion. There is loads of information on birds.just Google It!A lot of the websites dont advocate using grit or charcoal and i think thats loads of crap because my dads bird nearly died from not having it,and the vet was furios!Anyway, most birdies act funny at first,so just keep an eye on him, talk, look ,and if hes hand trained all the better for you to keep a close eye on him.My birds also love bread and raisin bread, you really can tempt them if you keep trying, most wont touch it at first, and then one day they get curios because its now a familiar thing in their cage. For right now try to have one person do everything for that bird so he gets comfortable faster, and maintain a routine.I keep a radio om when im at work on semi-low so they dont feel alone.Oh they dont drink significant amounts of water so dont worry!Just relax, and change the water every day, that behavior is totaly normal.Hope that gets you started,i didnt know anything two years ago either!

How long have you had him? A few hours? Days? Weeks?
Hours should be ok. He might not be hungry and he's still getting used to his new home. He'll probably eat for the first time when you're not around. Don't worry, he won't starve to death.

hey, same thing happened to me when i got parakeets.
They dont eat because they are nervous, worried and scared to death. Imagine if someone kidnapped you (aliens) and put food in front of you...would you be hungy? Im assuming not =/ neither would I. Just make sure you talk to them in a sweet voice and give them some space for a few days so they get used to it.

Your bird won't die. It's very new & some can take 1-3 days to settle down in their new home & start eating.
Give it some time.

Try giving a millet spray to your bird. They just LOOOVE them! then, you can wean your bird onto real food/seeds. my parakeet wouldn't eat at first either, but when I gave him the millet, he ate it like crazy! So at least your bird won't starve!
