It's best to not leave a budgie alone in a cage for more than 3 days. Any accidents that happen when you're not in the house can result in death. And they will also get lonely and eventually run out of food and water, even if you do fill it up full.

If you have a friend that can care for the budgie, take it to them. But make sure they don't have cats or dogs because they can pose a threat to the little birdies.

Budgie Care

Housing. A roomy cage will be needed which the parakeet can move around and spread it's wings in.

Keeping him entertained.
Budgies a wide variety of toys such as leather strips, bells, swings, shredder toys,,ect ect. All these you will find at a pet shop. Here is a website with some great although a bit expensive toys.

Also budgies really love having time out of the cage so be sure to let him out every day. A good addition to out of the cage play is a play area. Which you can mount on top of your bird's cage. they can be found at a petshop or on Foster and Smith.

Feeding
Budgies need a wide variety of foods to live a long healthy life. Budgies should be fed a mixture of seed, fruits, veggies, and pellets. Here are some websites with products that my birds love. You can find these in your local pet shop.

Watering
Budgies must have water to survive. After 48 hours without water(or food) a budgie will be dead so yeah.
Also a budgie's water should be changed to times a day, since budgies tend to throw food in and poop in their water. If the water is left unchanged and filled with poop and bird food, it could stimulate bacterial growth and if your bird drinks the dirty water it could become very ill.
So remeber your budgies should have fresh water always!

Cage Maintenence
Every or every other week the bottom tray of the cage should be cleaned out. Replace newspaper of litter(whichever) and scrubb the cage with hot water and some Poop Off(a really good brand of bird poop remover). rinse down afterwards. Dry ot off and put it back.

Lifespan
With good care budgies will live about 15-20 years(although someone on here said they had a 28 year old budgie)

You should not leave a Budgie,or any bird come to that, longer than a normal day. Your birds food/water will need refreshing at regular intervals. If you are able to get a RELIABLE friend/relative to attend to your birds needs regularly, and spend some time with him, that's fine Budgies are very social creatures and do need company or may suffer ill health. All our pets need CARE,if we are not able to give the care that our pets need, its advisable not to get one...

Hi- I don't have a budgie but i have 2 parrakeets and they're practically the same only a little smaller but they're the same care. When I go on trip I usually put in two dishes of water in their cage instead of one and 2 food dishes and they're fine but I wouldn't leave them alone for more than 4 days. You might be able to ask a neighbor or close friend to just check on it and see you wrote by A budgie, you really should buy 2 . for company

i wouldnt reccommend it if you go out of town a lot. they need constant attention from their owner every day. it is ok to go to school or work during the day and leave the radio or something on, but if the trips arent somewhere you can take the bird with you, i wouldnt get one.

I personally would not leave it for over a day, without someone checking on it each day. They need fresh water daily, and fresh seed also. If you can't make arrangements for someone to come in and check on a bird daily, or can't get someone to birdsit for you, then don't get one. They take a lot of care.
