I'm so sorry to hear that. :( What type of bird was it and what was his/her name?

The grief of losing a pet can be just as much or even more so than a human dying. It is not stupid at all.

I have lost many birds, last Friday we had a very strong wind which tipped my aviary (which was bolted to concrete by the way and was still shifted by the wind) and I lost one of my birds. They are my children, and it is very difficult.

Crying does help, so does making a tribute. You might want to plant a small garden or tree in memory of your bird (where it was buried maybe). Or if you are an artist, draw a picture, write a poem, write a song, etc, in memory of your bird.

It does hurt, and that is normal. Just never forget the times you had with your bird. If you can, write down your memories. You might regret forgetting them. ((HUGS))

(by the way, just want to point out that no bird is replaceable! birds are all individuals with emotions and experiences. you can't just 'buy a new one' and give it the same name or something. I find that so insulting when one of my birds die and some tells me to 'replace it'. However, buying a new bird does help ease the pain for some people, just remember that you are not and can never replace an individual)

Don't feel guilty because you grieve over a lost bird. I have 3 budgies buried in our back yard, with little head stones out there. I still look at their pictures or the little head stones and cry, and they have been gone for years. If you said, you didn't cry, I would think you were "hard hearted". I have a cockatiel now, this is his 4th home, and I worry about him all of the time. He is so attached to me.

You are not a baby for crying and showing that you have feelings. I lost one of my birds in a fire at my house a month ago. I think of her often and her mate still calls for her. Time will soften the sadness you feel. I enlarged a photo of her and placed it on my dresser so her mate and I can see her and know she is in a better place with the angels. Your bird knows you did all that you could to save her. You comforted her in her hour of need and she knew you were there. She passed on peacefully into the loving arms of the angels who are in charge of the animal kingdom. They will take good care of her for you.

You're not a retard or a baby. You're reacting like any human would when they've lost somebody that they love. I'm very sorry about your bird dying. One of my birds died unexpectedly about two years ago and I was extremely upset like you.

You grieve as you would any loved pet. You are not a retard, I have lost beloved budgies and cried and cried. I had little funerals for them, and would think of all the memories and deal with it, and because I would miss them so much I would get another one. It happens in life, time will help ease your sadness.

I lost my bird about 10 x in her life time. She flew away. Each time I found her and brought her back home. the last time she was on my shoulder all day palying with my hair etc.. until I went to get the newspaper outside. As I bent over she flew away again....and I never got her back. I'm still not over it. She wouldn't have flew away if I hadn't have bent over.
