one remedy for a bird that continusously bites you is tell them no,put your other hand in there or like an extra perch or something,he might fall for it,or ask your vet for tips. Its normal for them to flap their wings in their cage, its their form of excersise, and something else you coudl try is if and when you get the bird out sucessfully then put it on your sholder and walk around your house or apartment for a bitwhile the bird is on your sholder, never let the bird be higher than that, because once a bird's head is above your own, they consider themselves dominate.Good luck with the new bird.

I know cockatiel's can be hard to handle. I've had mine for about 7 1/2 years and I can say at sometimes it's quite tricky to please them. Mine tends to bite a lot and doesn't like to be disturbed especially when he's near a mirror or any place where he can see his own reflection. At other times he likes being around others and likes to be petted. He flies pretty well, but will bite you if you get in his way, mine likes to act like he's tough but he'll get scared a the sound of a pin drop. I guess with them you just have to be gentle, caring, loving and patient. No matter how much your bird trust you he'll bite if he gets scared, so be careful.
Best of luck. = ]

I love all kinds of cockatiels. I own the normal grey ones, albino ones and pied one and some pied yellow split ones. They are all lovely in their own way. I own 12 cockatiels and have right now 10 eggs and 3 babies.

Your bird is fine...lots of times cockatiels use their beak as a balance point to get down from someplace to a hand. Mine did that all of the time. If he bites you you'll know it! He sounds quite content. Preening his feathers is a sign of comfort and sleeping a lot is very common. Approach him slowly with your whole hand (don't just point) to get him used to you. Keep trying to touch him or he will become un-hand tame. I used to keep mine in a square cage with just the back 1/3 of the cage covered so he would have a sanctuary in the corner of his cage...birds like corners. They also like to be on the highest point they can get to so your bird is not afraid of heights. Don't hang anything like bells or toys from the center of the cage...hang the things on the walls of the cage because if the bird gets scared at night because he moves and touches something he can't see he'll freak out in the cage and hurt himself. It's actually best to keep a night light on in your room so the bird doesn't get disoriented during the night. It's extremely important to change his water every day and to clean in the corners of the bird dish so mold doesn't grow in the water bowl. I used to use a craft paint brush to clean along the edges. My bird was out of the cage most of the time because he liked it. If you choose to let your bird out of the cage set up an area for him to play...a mirror, toothpicks, things to climb on and water and food in the play area too. Make sure there are no cords that he can chew on in the area and that he can get back to his cage from the play area if he wants to. Feed your bird people food as well as bird seed...he'll live twice as long if you do. They can eat anything except avocados, lemons and chocolate. Mine loved spaghetti, mashed potatoes, chic peas, all veggies cooked or fresh and chicken...seemed weird for him to eat chicken but he loved it. Have fun with your new bird.

1st-Birds dont have spit so the y dont lich them selfs.
Its just not useto you. first calm it down then calmly take it out of the cage. for a few days just let it on ur lap then try petting it.
it may bite you but it wont be hard or hert because it is hand fed. let it know that it is doing somehting wrong just dont scare it.

You just got the bird, so leave it alone to get used to its surroundings.
