Most bird feeder and watering bowls are dishwasher safe. As long as they appear to be thick plastic, there should be no problem. Stainless steel or ceramic are also safe.
And as long ad your dishwasher has a "sterilize" setting, it will prevent any sort of contamination. If not, try to find the germicidal detergent . That will take care of that problem.
Good luck.

I have been washing my birds water and food dishes in the dishwasher for 10 plus years. I don't put any dishwasher soap, just run the dishwasher on the hottest setting. Every 2 weeks I will just boil water in my tea kettle and pour the water over the bird dishes. I did ask my vet about this first and he said it was fine.

If you are washing a big pot or pan, fill that with soapy water and put the other dishes inside instead of filling the whole sink. If you are not sure whether your method is better than washing them under running water, then try this: Plug up the sink but don't fill it. Then wash the dishes under running water. If the sink fills up before you are done, then this method uses more water. But then you can just put the rest of your dishes in to soak, so nothing's wasted in this little "test."

A dishwasher is perfectly safe for washing your birds dishes. If they're plastic, just put them in the top rack, where OTHER plastic items go. If they're metal or ceramic you can put them anywhere. I regularly wash ALL my birds' food and water bowls in my dishwasher.

That would be fine, as long as you make sure all the soap is washed out of it.

I think it might be more harmful to you than to your bird. Birds carry some pretty nasty diseases. Bird Flu comes to mind. I'd advise against it, for your sake more than your cockatiel.
