Cockatiels live for 15-20 years, some even live up to 30.
However, the average lifespan of pet cockatiels in the US is a mere 5 years, probably mostly due to malnutrition.
There are all sorts of things that it could have died from, but the main two is either malnutrition (if it was only fed seed, for example) or sickness (birds are very good at hiding sickness).
If you think it was the diet, do plenty of research on cockatiel diets so you can help your other birds. If you think it may have been sickness, it is probably worth taking your surviving birds to an avian vet in case it was contagious.
Hope that helps. And I'm sorry for your loss. :(

Sadly your bird has passed away in what is normally about half a normal lifespan for a Cockateil.
Although there are diseases and conditions which can cause this , I would tend to think that diet is the culprit Do you give your birds fruits and veggies. Are they on a vitamin enriched pellet diet? Is their intake of seeds restricted to only a small part of their diet? Do they get table food( which is not bad if done knowledgeably )? Have they eaten chocolate, avocado coffee, alcohol or fruit seeds which can all be deadly to birds ?
If you can afford it, you might want to take the bird to an Avian Vet to establish the actual cause of death. I only suggest this because you have 2 other birds who could be suffering from the same thing.
Good luck.

8 years is a very short life span for a tiel. But in captivity most birds don't reach 12 though because of poor diet, lack of excersise, no vet care(by the time a bird shows it it's too late usually), and accidents(whether just bad luck or because of human wrecklessness. Tiels on average in captivity live 8-12 years but with good care can easily live to be 20 years old. You may want to check if your diet is giving them enough nutrition, enough water, at least 30 minutes of excersise a day, and also that no toys and perches are cramped to prevent injuries.

20 years. I would say he may have had something wrong. Birds are good at hiding illness.

Well, I'd say 8 to 12 years...I'd thought about 20 years but maybe I'm wrong & it's shorter than I thought.
