Before more answers come to my original question, I have 1) already checked into the legalities and I am allowed to import a pet bird (not going to US or Australia) and 2) I know of someone who just brought 2 cockatiels on an overseas flight and they were fine. If you are a bird owner who has ever flown with your bird, please let me know how it went.

My mum wants a baby galah. She wants the bird to bond with her so would like to hand rear it. She doesnt want to take on the bird too young as the feeds are required so often and may become sickly without its mother. Although she wants to start handling it before it becomes too attached to its mother. Any ideas?

I have a 2 year old male CAG, he loves me and nobody else. I am not here all the time, and he is alone when I am gone. I have found a 2 year old female CAG for sale in my area. What do you think? Should I get her to keep my male company? Not trying to breed them, but I do have experience with breeding and handfeeding just in case they did decide to mate. Anyone have experience introducing two CAGs?

It is supposedly harmless for birds to sit on high voltage overhead cables as there is no path to earth. I want to know why they stay well clear of them. However they do like to sit on the top earth cable.

Is there a difference between the two types. And also if there is will they breed with each other or are they otherwise know as two completely different species. Also are the males solid green or do they have a little yellow on their heads?

I recently saw a BEAUTIFUL Macaw~called a "Ruby Macaw"~ a cross between a Scarlet and a Green Wing~ Are there any types that are cross bred with the Blue & Golds?
~~I don't plan to breed mine, so please don't bombard me about all the unwanted, neglected & adoptable birds, I'm well aware of that unfortunate problem~~ I'm just curious:)
Thank You!

I recently bought 2 parakeets (accidentally - a boy and a girl). I already have a cockatoo, so I figured a parakeet would be no problem. Anyway - upon arriving home both were extremely hand shy - or hand terrified! Within about 20 minutes I had the boy hand friendly and stepping up on command (has NEVER bitten me). Then there is the girl... I've been working with her for 2 weeks now. I've tried going slowly, food treats in the hand, etc. The few times I've gotten her in my hand - she bites non stop. Quite a few times I have allowed her to bight non stop and kept myself from making a noise or movement thinking that after she saw I wasn't reacting she would stop - WRONG! Likewise, when she's on the carpet or a piece of clothing - she bites it non-stop. Is there anything I can do or is she destined to be mean forever? I want her to be able to be held by people - kids in particular... PLEASE HELP!!

The lady who sold him to me also sold me some dry pellets and dry nectar. The back of the package says the dry nectar should be added to water or sprinkled over fresh fruit, but the lady said to add it dry to the pellets. I guess I'm just looking for common ground and wondered what everyone else does. I am also interested to find out what fresh fruits and veggies you personally feed your Lori.
