I think its an attention thing. We all like being centre of attention dont we. Show off a bit. They mimic in the wild too. Infact it is natural for them to wolf whistle in the wild as well as any other noise they here so when they are kept as pets its natural. They are very intelligent

i hav a parrot myself,they become very attached to 1 person like mates,so all there doin is bein ur mate,they dont no wot it means there sayn,there jus makn u happy,aren't they klass.i love mines to bits
