Birds - January 2007

We have a cockatiel but would like to have a larger bird. I've been looking at blue and gold macaws. I have 4 kids. the youngest is 8 years and quite active. What large bird would you reccommend for our household? Noise doesn't matter! We just want a large cuddly bird. We are finding that 1 bird just isn't enough for our household

Well, I have had my parakeets for about a year now. But they won't allow them to be handled. They fly about and I can't ineteract with them or anything!

I have a newly aquired moustache parakeet. Upon taking her to the vet today for her first visit, I was informed she has this condition . This is my first bird so I'm very unsure what to do. The vet recommened culturing the throat and antibiotic therapy. The culture alone is 100.00. Could this be treated just by giving her an antiobiotic without the expensive testing. i love this bird but also am not rich. Does anyone have any knowledge of something like this? Thanks...

i have a female budgie who laid an egg inside a clothing basket off all places! ( this iw what i get for letting her fly around) i moved the egg with gloves to the cage and she didnt acknoldge it....i put it back there and shes sitting on it....i want to take her back to the cage with egg? whats the best way...so she doenst using lothign basket/?

I just bought the cockatiel yesterday and the breeder said to wait a week to let it out of the cage, but it seems so lonely and scared. It liked me handling it when I was in the store.

She will even allow me to kiss her head and she gives me lil pecks back. I've tried giving her treats and then trying to ease in a pet and she will open her mouth in warning and move away from my hand, I've never pushed myself on her, For i do not want to perm. Scare her.
What more can i do to gain all her trust and her let me actually pet her?
Also, Is it okay to feed my bird a unsalted or salted cracker?

I have three of them. Mother, father, and the baby.

The parents both run from me when I put my hand near them, but their baby ( who is fully grown now ) doesn't. The baby was hand fed by me and I basically just took care of it a few weeks after it was with its parents. He jumps right on my hand when I open cage with no problem - but the parents never cooperate.

I have a south american black headed caiqui parrot, but no matter what I put for him to keep his beak down he will not use! I have tried cuttlefish not interested, tried grot and nope wont use that either and the perch sand tubes! I have taken him to the vets to have it trimmed! Shall I just keep doing what she does just keep cutting it back or can someone suggest putting something in his cage he might use that I havnt heard of! cheers would appreciate some help, Hes not that easy to do with the cutters!

Today my 7 month old tiel' just lost a second feather but it didn't look normal it look like it had been bleeding cause there was a liittle dry blood on his feather on the tip of the feather He is a very hyper in his cage and bends his feathers all the time they bend and the break off but don't bleed??????????????????
