After the ducks lay the eggs how long before the egg becomes unsafe to eat? or How quickly do I have to collect the eggs? How long are they good for after collection/refrigeration?

As a general rule, one should collect duck eggs as soon as they are laid. Several hours in the summer are already too much.
Fresh eggs (imediately after being collected) are to be kept in the refrigerator.
However, the sooner they are eaten, the better. No more than 1 week though! Why? Because unlike hen eggs, duck eggs are more prone to containing Salmonella, which is an extremely nasty bacteria. The probability is higher if ducks are bread in the countryside where they are allowed to swim in ponds or lakes. Ducks eat worms and water plants, and drink pond water which is most likely to contain germs.
This is the reason for which it is more advisable to eat duck eggs boiled very hard (around 10 -12 minutes at least) to kill the eventual Salmonella germs inside them.
If eaten as omelet or poached, one should be very careful and fry them well/ boil them well.
In any case, they are less easy to digest than hen eggs and should be avoided if possible.

Fresh duck eggs should be collected within 24 hours after laying. They are safe to eat for 3 to 4 weeks if kept refrigerated. If you are unsure of how old the egg is, crack it in a small bowl before adding it to the bowl or skillet that you are using to prepare them.

Duck and chicken eggs can be hatched up to 14 days after they are layed as long as they aren't refrigerated(which kills the egg), so refrigerated ones keep longer. The eggs you gather yourself are also fresher than the ones you buy in a store, and so they last longer.

About a week. I asked my sister and she eats duck eggs occasionally, too.

The only 'safe' way to eat 'duck!! Eggs!!' is naked and wearing swimming goggles.
