Birds - August 2006

We live in NW PA and I dont know how these bats keep getting into our home at night. Does anyone know how to deter them from coming in? Please help!!

I went to five different pet stores (yes, I know a breeder is best but I can't sit around her home and watch as easily so for now..pet stores) and every lovebird I saw just sat. They sat in pairs, some were alone..but all they did was sit. No playing, no hanging. Does anyone actually own one that can tell me from exper?

We have a crow that we rescued when he fell out of his nest, he is now 10 years old and although he gets a bit tatty in the summer he seems perfectly well. Just wondered how long they normally live? We have him free in our 60ft workshop, so he's quite happy.

Why would a boy want to choke a poor defenseless chicken, I'm sure the chicken would rather not be choked. But boys do it anyway. Do they get off on choking chickens, isn't that cruelty to animals?

I have a Blue and Gold Macaw. It is five Years old. When I bought it was only a few weeks old. I paid over 1,000.00 for it. I have 4 parakeets right now. They have their summer home which is a 2ft wide, by 4ft. long, by 6ft. tall outside aviary. They stay in their aviary from late spring, summer and early fall and in the winter when it gets cold they go inside. My inside cage is 17" wide by 17"long by 33" tall. We have named them after the characteres of friends, but we are two shy. Can we get 2 more parakeets and have them live comfortable in their winter cage?

My 3 keets seem very happy and healthy on a quality seed diet mixed with an Australian blend that has dried fruits in it. But they seem to dump out all the good bits. They just WON'T take fresh fruit from me, just lettuces, parsley and such. Also, is a millet spray (large) too much about every other day for them? I heard somebody say millet sprays are like 'baby food' to a keet.....Any suggestions would be helpful.
