I used to breed cockatiels, grey, white, pied, pearl, cinnamon

You need to work with the bird, hold it a lot. I used to hold mine and let them bit me all they wanted and in a few days they will stop and you can start training them. With handling you can open their wings and all and they will let you do it and never even bite you. But take your time, that is the best thing to do.

To check if it is a male the face will have a lot of yellow in it. The females have more grey. Also on all of the colors the femals have yellow spots on the underside of all the feathers on their wings.

Good luck

This will take time.. months and if you dont have it find a home that someone will.

Step one: put your hand in the cage, just near the opening, 3 time a day until the bird doestn get agitated when you do it.

Step two: Go little further each time, ie, when he is used to putting it in, go to the middle the next few times until he is used to THAT far....

etc etc etc... it may take up to a month or more. Depends on long he was out wild.

But consistancy and patience is the key. Birds will ALWAYS bite. Cats and dogs have been domesticated over thousands of years, birds have not, they are still wild. Withbirds its just a matter of time, at some point it will just click that he can trust you and then its great from then on out! You will notice a huge sudden change. Ours is a spoiled brat and talks up a storm and loves to be with us. He was hand friendly when we got him, but it took 6 - 9 months before he really warmed up and now, we cant get him to shut up! ha ha

*Get online and do searches for websites about lost tiels. You would make more than someone's day if they lost that baby.

*Getting a bird to trust ALL the time takes patience. You need the bird to sit on your shoulder or just in his own space/cage until he gets really comfy. For days or even weeks. THEN work up to him trusting your fingers coming at him etc. They can be okay one sec and more cautious the next until they fully trust.

give the cockatiel some time, he may just be bitting from being scared. Do work with him everyday tho and he should become use to you. Most cockatiels dont bite as long as they are around a human alot

he is very scared from all the other birds. its evidently he is used to being handled or he wouldn't have climbed on your shoulder. just keep working with him, but in the meantime try to find his owner. you can even call your local pet shelters or rescues and ask them if anyone is looking for him. leave your name and number with them in case his owner calls after you do. post posters around town but ask people to describe him, dont post a picture. you want to make sure he goes to the right owner.

First thing you need to do it try to find the owner of the bird. Someone's pet has probubly flown out the window and they are missing it.

You have to continually work with it every day. If you don't continue to pick him up and handle him he will just get meaner.
