Birds that lay too much can get a calcium deficiency like said above, but its cause your bird obviously wants to mate. She is grumpy because of tis reason, that and she is probly annoyed of laying egg after egg, and them never hatching, speaking of, you have to try to remove the egg within 24 hours preferrably as soon as you notice it. If you just buy the wooden ones she will be more and more frustrated that nothing is hatching, the only hope you have to get your "old bird" back would be to start removing the eggs immediately! The best thing you can do would be to take her out of her cage, and preferrrably away from it while you do this, and completely rearrange it! Move toys, move to a different room, put new toys in, move her food and water dishes etc! Bird won't lay eggs in surroundings they aren't familiar with, this may not be a permanent result, but it will at least bide you some time! Also if your bird has a stuffed animal in its cage, it may be trying to mate with it, and it definitely needs to be removed!

Are you taking her eggs away as soon as she lays them? If you do, she will continue to lay. Some people buy wooden eggs (same size as hers), throw hers away and replace them with the fakes. That way she can still "sit on them" and stop laying. Birds can die of calcium deficiency, which can be caused by frequent laying. Make sure she has a calcium supplement while this is going on...any pet store will have it...and she will eat it to replenish what she is loosing by laying eggs. Good Luck!

Do you only have one bird? My parakeet did this and the vet told me she was lonely. I realize its a different type of bird but birds are social creatures. The solution was to get her a friend. I got another female bird, they got along great and she never layed another egg.
