Pets - 13 October 2007

Hello there. Earlier one of my cats was found eaten alive. She was ripped in half, from her armpits down. Everything was consumed below that point, her spine and lower feet were picked to the bone, and there was no fur. I live in a residential area, with some farming. She was found near a creak, where there is alot of grass. Any ideas on what ate her?

She is 10 months old and the previous owner called her Diva. I just don't like it and really want a name we have chosen for her. However my daughter and i cannot agree on anything! We have a dog called Sassy, so what's a good opposite name to Sassy (apart from Diva!).

Please help me! I'm VERY worried! Is there something wrong? Maybe it's not hot enough? The temps dropped quite low outside but not in his 30 gal tank. Could it be that maybe she needs more water? or should have more salad everday? maybe she overeated???

We have an atrium in our home that is open to the sky. Birds perch on the roof and sometimes their droppings fall into our tiled atrium. Our cats are indoor cats but are allowed to go into the atrium because it is completely enclosed and safe from the outdoor hazards of coyotes, cars, etc. But I've noticed that one of the kitties seems to be eating something on the floor of the atrium and I suspect that it can be excrement from the birds. If it is true, it is totally gross and not typical of my fastidious little animals. Any ideas out there?

I just added 22 cardinal tetras to my 40 gallon tank. 2 died on the way home and they just keep dropping dead . So far 4 have died in the tank. I did every thing i was supposed to do like float the bag etc. None of the other fish have this problem and they Havent hurt the tetras at all. Why do the tetras keep dying?

I am looking for a new puppy,and I'm trying to narrow down my choices.I am an experienced dog person,and will be using this dog for obediance,showmanship,a running partner,and probably other doggie sports like agility,all when it is old enough.It needs to be smart,athletic,flashy,and of medium size.I was looking at dogs from the sporting,herding,and working group.I have an acre and a half of fenced in land.I don't want a German Shepherd,Retriever,or Boxer.I also have a budget of about $850-1 grand is pushing it.My options so far:Pointer,German Shorthaired Pointer,Australian Shepherd,Border Collie,Weimaraner,and Rhodesian Ridgeback.

I have two guineapigs. And My dad just got me a donut while i had them out. He put the donut on my bed(on a pplate) and he did not relize one of my two guineapigs where up there. I did not think anything of it, Cause i was taling to my dad, we turned around and saw my baby eating the chocolate donut. I am very careful with my guineapigs and i love them to death. She is 1 almost 2 years old. I feel so bad cause i am usually so careful withthem, and watch them evey sec. What should I do?? Should I bring her to the vet. I know the otherone did not get into it because my dad was holding her. Help!!!!! How bad is chocolate for guineapigs??

My chihuahua gave birth to a litter about 7 weeks ago. The pups are weaned. She is bleeding now. (of course, she had stopped bleeding after giving birth). Is there any way she could be in heat again this soon? Or do you think this is a problem I should be concerned about?

i have a chinchilla, and i might get a dog. but before i get one, i want to make sure if it would be a good idea. if i do get one, i will put the chinchilla upstairs, and cover the cage with something so the dog cant get to it. so what do you think?

oh, i LOVE animals, and treat them all equally, so i dont think one is gonna get jealous or anyhting like that

And house them togeather in a 4 foot vivarium? I know two males would fight but I would like a female to go with my male dragon. My male dragon is 3-5 month old and 10 inch long. If you have personal experience what are the pro's and con's of pairing them togeather?

I used to own rats but when I handle them now and get small cuts from their tiny claws, the cuts swell and get red. When I get close to the cage my eyes tear up and my sinuses clog. I've talked to a guy that works at the Petsmart here and he's noticed it happen to him, too. I've washed the rats, scrubbed their feet and changed their bedding but I eventually had the same reactions. I just want to know if they are breeding rodents differently.

Hi i have a two convicts, one is an inch and a have but still seems liek only an incha dn one measures to be only an inch and is less fisty then the toher, they were botht he same size when i baugth them and oen grew so much faster, I asked for two females but i think i got a male because opf the fin and the lump on the head growing in and all the signs ive read about and the toehr seems to eb a famale, these guys r in a 15 gallon but will be put into a 55 shortly if these guys have all the babies they r siupposed to what cna i do with them i dont really want to have a million babies or a million grown up convicts for that matter, But i would like to observe their parenting habits like my friend convict parents when feeding they attacked and bit my finger it was very cool hehe

My husband and I rescued a 5 week old kitten and he seems to be teething and other than giving him harder food is there anything we can do to help him? If he was human then I would know what to do but I feel so sorry for him and don't know what to do to help him.
