Your dog sounds as though he's not feeling well, for some reason.

Lack of appetite and lethargy can be a sign of illness, but is usually accompanied by other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea etc. The shedding, scratching and dry skin sound like an allergy, which could also explain the lethargy.

I'd suggest you get your veterinarian to give him a thorough check-up to rule out any underlying illness that could be causing the problem first of all.

As for allergies, dogs can be (and often are) allergic to lots of things... flea allergies, dog food allergies and inhalant and topical allergies (just like in people) are the most common. Any kind of allergy usually shows up as a skin condition. With the appetite problem, it may be a food allergy.

There's a lot you can do to make your dog feel better if he is suffering from some kind of allergic reaction. First you need to find out what sort of allergy it is (ie what his 'trigger' is) and eliminate that. This can take a while, but is not too difficult.

Meantime there are lots of products you can use to make him feel more comfortable and reduce the itching and shedding somewhat.

If he's getting bald patches, it could also be that he has mange (caused by mites) which is treatable, but needs to be diagnosed by a vet. Do take your dog for a check up as soon as possible anyway.

take a look at these url's below for info. on dog allergies and treatments for skin conditions. Best of luck with your dog, hope he's feeling better soon.

All animals shed but it can be because you are bathing him to mush or not enough. Eating and having a good diet is vey important! I would try to get some itching cream or medication for your pet and if that doesn't work call your vet!

I would take him to the vet first thing, to see if anythings wrong with him. That way you can see whats wrong and fix it before its too late.
