my mum recently got surgery and she cant walk normally for now and my jack russell, whom is usually jumpy and energetic has just been sitting or laying there everytime my mum talks to him or walks by him. he is very calm around her as if he knows she's sick and cant handle him being annoying. is this possible?
if so, i cant believe how respectful he is. is it in a jack russell's nature to be like this?
thanks

I have been keeping tropical fish for the last few months, and have upgraded to a four foot tank. I saw two gorgeous Oranda goldfish in the LFS the other day, and I'm thinking of exchanging my tropicals for these beauties. They are three years old now, and almost fully grown. Is a four foot tank o.k for fish these size. Also, is there anything special I need to know about caring for these fish?

Hello,

We're going to be going to the shelter soon to look for a dog to adopt, and I am VERY excited. I've been doing a lot of reading and researching on the breed Im interested in. We've looked into puppy "kindergarten" found the vet we want and everything.

Every animal we have had in the past has always been more of my moms pet I think.. and it always bugged me because they would sleep with her in her bed and never mine. But, she was the one who fed them and walked them since she ws up first...

Im much older now, and a lot more responsible. I want to be the one to feed her, walk her, bathe her, teach her tricks and everything else.. If I do this, will she be more of my dog? My mom says that the only reason the animals we had in the past followed her so much is because she fed them?

Thanks everyone

Took my lab to the vet a couple of months ago as she had a limp. Vet said it was arthritis and gave pain killers to be taken one a day. The pills haven't really helped and she still limps badly. I noticed yesterday that one of the middle pads on one of her front feet is swollen, and the swollen toe is beginning to cross over the other middle toe. Cant find any info on net about crossed, swollen toes. Can anyone help please?

dog: your name is 'pido'. you love your master, but his wife often scolds you for bringing mud into the house. It was fun in the house when the kids were there but now they have grown up and moved away. No one seem to have time to play with you anymore. Also you seem to be so losing your sense of smell and can't run as fast as you did. You're only 12 years old.

ok so i'm really scared..i brought a rabbit about a month ago, i asked a guy at the pet shop if it was a male or female, he said he 'thought' it was a female.. (i named her clover) So today i thought i would get another one, i made sure that it was a female and the lady that checked was certain it was a female. I took her home and my rabbit from before (clover) started chasing the other one and i swear they were mating. I am so confused..i don't want my rabbits to start breeding. I am pretty sure they are both females! Help Please!

I am curious about all the talk regarding 'bettering' a breed. I am definately not condoning the practices of puppy mills, i have seen one, and seriously, these people had at least 100 dogs on thier property, 30 fox terriers per pen! Having said that, i own 2 dogs, a 12yr old female doberman and a maltese x shihtzu female who i breed with to supply pre-ordered puppys. (not the doberman)! Now, i guess im a backyard breeder, should i be put in the same catergory as puppy mill suppliers? It all seems to be a bit generalised. How do people get away with having 100 plus dogs on thier property anyway?
Oh, and how much more can we 'better' our purebreds? in my eyes both my dogs are perfect thanku very much, purebred or not, lol. Better a breed more? Only if your upset it cant look after itself, make its own doctor apps perhaps? Seriously, i understand the problem with unwanted dogs but educating people is the key to fixing it, not abuse. sensible answers only thnx.

My cat is two years old. She lately has started throwing up like every other day. Why is she throwing up so much? Do I need to worry? I feed her Eukanuba and she is very active and eats and drinks enough...she looks really healthy

We just recently had to put my other dog to sleep a week and a half ago and him and my other dog that we still have were really close. Well now my dog is lashing out he's been pooping in the living room while we are sleeping. We take him outside right before we go to bed so it's not like he doesn't have a chance to go to the bathroom. He knows he does wrong because he'll hide underneath the bed right when we wake up he goes running. It's really making me mad. What can I do about this? We don't feed him after 9:00 PM. And dont take him out til about 11:30 after that. To give it time for it to digest. Is he lashing out because his little buddy is gone?

Oh please....somebody help me! I have a 1 year old female chihuahua. And we absolutely LOVE her. But, for the love of God, I can't get her potty trained. I have read books, went to websites, bought puppy pads, caged her for weeks, and am now pulling my hair out. Not only can I not get her to stop chewing on anything/everything made of cotton or plastic....I can't get her to go ALL the time outside ! ! !
I don't want to get rid of her, everyone loves her. But, If I can't potty train her...... I may just have too.

My 6-month old kitten keeps jumping up on the kitchen table, kitchen counters, and stove area. When I notice, I clap and in a firm voice say "no"...I pick her up by her scruff and put her in time out in the bathroom...I've even bonked her lightly on the head a few times...nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Would anyone suggest using a bitter apple spray?

My kittens are about a month and a half old and my room is in the basement of my house. I was in the living room half watching a movie, i had the lights off because i could see a shine in the tv and my window was open. So i stepped on a chair to close the window cuz its a little high up and when i stepped down from the chair i accidentally stepped on one of my kittens. It started rolling around the ground in circles and it was bleeding from its mouth, now i dont know where i stepped on it but im guessing its mouth. There's an overnight vet down the road from my house so i drove there as fast as i could, i probably got there within five minutes or less. Now, the doctor said that he couldn't feel any broken bones anywhere and that he gave it some medicine and its in an oxygen tank. I just want to know if this has happened to anyone before and after 24 hours did the cat survive, the doctor wasn't sure and im a nervous wreck, please somebody help.

I want to call him
Schnitzel Von Krumm like in the childrens books , but my husband hates it.

Other names I like are Theodore, Frits or Barrett

What do you think? I like unusual names.

I have a cat that will soon be 18 years old. I've had a horrible time keeping weight on her. Until the last several months she's always had a very healthy weight. We've ruled out medical reasons for the weight loss. She sees a vet at least twice a year for senior kitty check ups. Each time we do full bloodwork and test the urine. Once a year we do an ultrasound. She just had all of this stuff done twice in the last three months. We are also sure she is parasite free and that her thyroid is normal. She has been on an ultra premium, organic diet for years. Lately just to put weight on her I've tried more brands and additional types of food. She is allowed to eat as much as she wants, trust me she has a healthy appetite. Anyone else out there have a similar issue? Oh, her poo is solid and no changes there. She's also 100% indoors.

I just bought a horse and I am now looking for blankets for her. I need to know what kind of blanket to buy. I live in Pa so the winters can get pretty cold here. I definitely want a turnout blanket. Do you think I need a stable blanket? I spent more on this horse than I was originally planning (fell in love ;) ) and so I am a bit tight on cash. Does anyone know of any good cheap brands? What things should I look for in a turnout blanket? What features should it have? How heavy should it be? Thanks!!

so i got this bunny about 2 months ago. and he came back from ohio with a few fleas. and now i'm getting flea bitten every time i go to feed my bunny or be around him. he's protected and so is my cat. but i'm not and i really want to get them out of the house. any ideas on killing fleas? we're using this stuff that's for moths and caterpillars. it's pretty potent stuff and it works surprisingly well on fleas. but it just isn't getting them all and i'm bitten everywhere.
