is it a good idea to put two males with one female..??
so that the female can choose which male she prefers?

No not a good idea at all! Males want one mate and they are their mate for life. By throwing in another male you are causing conflict.

What you will cause is stress on the female which will cause her to pluck. The males will fight for the female.

My suggestion if you do not want aggressive birds! Do not Mate them any bird that you mate will be very aggressive.

No because the males will fight (budgies can inflict nasty injuries on each other)and she will effectively get exhausted from them hassling her all the time.

BAD IDEA! KEEP THE TWO MALES SEPARATED WHEN YOU HAVE A FEMALE. THEY WILL JUST FIGHT.
