I have been keeping tropical fish for the last few months, and have upgraded to a four foot tank. I saw two gorgeous Oranda goldfish in the LFS the other day, and I'm thinking of exchanging my tropicals for these beauties. They are three years old now, and almost fully grown. Is a four foot tank o.k for fish these size. Also, is there anything special I need to know about caring for these fish?

The tank size would be perfect for two orandas

Do partial waterchanges of 25% weekly with a gravel siphon
Feed them twice a day as much as they will eat in under 2 min, the rest needs to be netted out
Filtration is very important as well, but have the flow on a low setting, they don't like strong current
Provide some caves where they can hid in or plants

Hope that helps
Good luck

Nope. Goldfish are very notorious for pooping a lot more than other fish. For a goldfish, you need an overrated power filter. For example, if you keep one in a 30 gallon tank, you need a filter rated for 50 gallons (as an example). If you put even one goldfish in an 8 gallon tank, the water will always be cloudy and have poop floating in it. This may sound like a lot, but if you want healthy goldfish that will live long, then you need a 30 gallon tank for one goldfish. For each extra fish, add 10 gallons. Goldfish grow pretty fast, and before you know it, it'll be too big for your fishtank. Also, goldfish are pretty much only compatible with plecos. They won't do very well with snails. My snail died. I gave my goldfish to my friend and got neon tetras, guppies, and ghost shrimp. You can have a maximum of 1 adult fish per gallon (does not aply to goldfish, since they poop so much). If I were you, I wouldn't get fish that grow more than 2 1/2 inches for a tank that size. Good luck! : )

Wow. I'm impressed. Someone actually asking before gettin gthe fish.
Plenty of room, go for it. They will produce more wastes, so be prepared for water changes and tank cleaning.
