My husband and I rescued a 5 week old kitten and he seems to be teething and other than giving him harder food is there anything we can do to help him? If he was human then I would know what to do but I feel so sorry for him and don't know what to do to help him.

Dampening a rag and freezing it helps a lot when relieving the teething pain on puppies, so I'm pretty sure it would work with your kitten. Try it.

I found a small really hard rubber dog about three inches long and an inch wide and let the kitten chew on it. But I always watched while it chewed. Nothing ever happened but I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to kittens. I also would put it in the fridge for an hour or two and the kitten loved it. She could really chomp down on it and the shape let it get to the back teeth. Good luck. Worked for me. It was sort of like a Kinder Toy the kind that comes in the Chocolate egg.

It's great that you rescued this kitten, the only thing I know is just let him have the dry food. We got our kitten at a very young are about 5 or 6 weeks old and she didn't have any problems with teething, I never even knew if she was teething or not, she just acted like a normal kitten, playing all day. How can you tell if he is teething? Is he scratching at his face?

I haven't heard of teething kittens ever. I'm sure they do, but if they are 12 weeks they are ready for Kitten Chow or new homes if you are ready to adopt them out.

He is fine. Don't do anything. There is teething, which usually is not a big issue in kittens, and then there is the fact that they have no hands and explore EVERYTHING with their mouths. As long as he is not causing damage, let him.

When my cat was teething, I would give him crunchy treats all the time...he would eat them but he would hardly touch his food, which I assumed was because his gums were hurting. I also let him have ice cubes, which he would lick and play with on the floor (but they melt, so it might be a little bit of a mess)...I also would let him chew on my finger...I know it sounds crazy, but it doesn't really hurt and it was better than listening to him meow like he was dying...But the thing that kept his attention most was the plastic ring off of Aquafina drinking water bottles...(It has to be this specific kind)...it has these little plastic teeth on the inside and my kitty would chew them and it also served as a toy. I would even stick them in the freezer to make them cold. He still plays with them now...

Congratulations on rescuing it, what a nice thing!

As far as easing it, giving it hard food is all I can really think of.

If you don't get satisfactory answers here, I would try googling it or checking with your local vet.

Good luck!
