I found a bug coccon and I'm tring to figure out if it's a butterfly, and if so, what types it's.

I found it at my grandmother's house in ky.

The coccon is about 2/3's of an inch long. It's really hard ,and is a mixture of bronw black and white, with small white thorn-like protrusionss ont it's back.

Does anyone know where I can find a picture on the internet of something similiar?

Thanks!

I have two black labs and they both are very strong and like to pull me while out for walks. I keep hearing about choke collars but I am unsure of them because they look like they hurt. But I'm also hearing that it doesn't actually hurt them. Is this true? Do they help in leash training? Any other ideas that might help in leash training? Thanks!

Why would you use bleach,or any chemicals to clean a fish tank?I had a tank that I recently set up,it had been in storage for years, and when I cleaned it out,I used nothing but water and a razor blade to get some of the dried algae off the bottom.
I just read that some poor guy cleaned out his tank with bleach, and now his fish are sick.I'm sorry, but DUH,Why would anyone do this?

I finally got my pup to the vet, she said it was flea allergens, and since he's weakened by the flea saliva a bacteria infection and yeast has grown. I just administered advantage that the vet gave me to my dog, and now I'm just wondering what I can do to treat my house as well, asides from vaccuming often and using borax on the carpet and lawn. I also have wooden and tile floors, can the eggs survive there too? Also, when I get rid of the fleas and his allergic reaction settles down, will that also get rid of the bacteria&yeast infection, or atleast make it easier to get rid of, or will he need another few strong doses of medication to get rid of those? I probably should've asked the vet these things, but I was sort of brain dead from waking up at 6 A.M. If I can't get any answers here I'll call her tomorrow, thanks.

Yesterday my 2 1/2 yr old Domestic shorthair Spot passed away SUDDENLY from a blood clot in his heart. ZERO warning signs, and I awoke to the sounds of my 2 yr old Callico Lexi yelping and trying to wake me up. Baffled, I went out in the living room, didn't see Spot. Then lying right in the middle of our kitchen floor there he was. He sadly passed away in the middle of the night.
Fast forward to late last night: Lexi meows ALOT now, is searching nearly every room for her beloved playmate, but sadly he is up in kitty cat Heaven. I "talked" to her telling her that her "step brother" is in a better place now. But she insists on clinging to my side now more than ever, she used to never sleep next to me and my girlfriend, and now she will lie next to me on my pillow. I can tell (I know, this sounds dumb) that she is depressed, and that she was "at Spot's side" when he passed away. What can I do to help her?

About a week ago i bought home a australian shepherd puppy...

well the problem is, is that awhile ago my moms ragdoll cat got fleas from wondering outside and he brought them into the house and has been there ever since. now my puppy has them and she is only 9 weeks old.

We are moving in about 2 weeks and i dont want ANY fleas getting to the new house.

What can i do with the puppy? Since she is only 9 weeks old i dont know what i can do to kill the fleas before we get to the new house and keep them off.

same with the cat since hes coming too and i think he has some fleas as well.

My chihuahua keeps scratching his ear so much that there's a bald spot. But he only scratches one ear (on the back OUTSIDE not the inside). The other ear is OK.

it couldn't be fleas because he was given flea drops and flea bath.

I heard that if it were ear mites he'd be scratching the inside and that there would be oozing coming out of his ear but neither happens. Plus I have another chihuahua that doesn't scratch her ears..... don't ear mites infest nearby pets also?

So it couldn't be ear mites could it?????

Even though one will let me pet her she will try to run away and resists me as much as possible. The other one is hard to pick up and will not let me do anything. Other details include that they are 9 weeks old ( i've had them for over a week) and have ruby eyes.

Neighbor's dog lost a lot of weight over the past several months and has large dry patches of skin that looks rough like the cracked desert ground, but it's dark colored. He has been on meds for worms, but could something else be wrong?

My cat likes lazing around just about anywhere, but mostly in the flower beds. For several weeks now he has had these horrible looking blood sucking insects stuck to his head. He gets about 4 or 5 a week. My husband has to pull them out - they have wiggly legs, their body is grey and the more blood they suck the bigger their body gets - gross eh! We dab infected area with disinfectant, but am a bit worried. Could they be causing damage? They don't seem to annoy him at all. Has anyone else encountered this problem with their cat picking up parasites from outdoors? Thanks

i cleaned out my new tank with bleach. Then i used viniger to wash it away. I rinsed it with water hose for about 10 minutes. Then i brung it back insde put water in it then i put some dechlorinitzer in it. I put some minnows in the tank to see if it was safe. They seemed to do fine so then i put my two oscars in there. Now there on the bottom of the tank on its side or on the top floating. On occasions they are swimming around. Are they going to die?

No lecturing please, I don't want to feed my dog kibble anymore. She has very high quality organic kibble but it's still not good enough.

So I was thinking about this;

Breakfast -
Puppy/Goats milk, and a small amount of rice (or whatever other cereals) with whatever supliments she needs, if she should have them.

Dinner - Cooked/Raw (still unsure about this) meat meal in the evenings with a bit of vegetable pulp and half a tea spoon of fish oil?

and a couple calcium treats mid day sinse she is still a puppy and very active.

Any reccomendations or alterations? I'm worried about checking with my vet, as for one, they have Sceince Plan in the waiting room and 2. they charge £15 for a meeting which is a rip off if all I'm gonna get told is lies about "balance". I don't belive in balance, childrens' meals aren't balanced to the letter and an animal wouldn't measure out his portions and vitamins in the wild.

Okay, we have had a female cat named Whiskers for her whole life (about 8 years) and we are considering getting a female kitten. Whiskers is an indoor cat that we let in the backyard for a half an hour a day, she is spayed, declawed, and has only had another cat in the house when she was a kitten herself.
Whiskers has an amazing personality and we don't want to get a kitten if she is going to change forever. She is funny, cute, hyper, and cuddly. Do you think a kitten would change her?
Should we get a kitten or not?

I took my yorkie to the vet today and the vet told me that he has fleas! I almost died! I know dogs get fleas, but I was surprised that mine had them. He's not an outside dog, but when I went out of town last weekend, my co-worker baby sat for me. So that, I assume is where he got them from. My co-worker has 4 dogs (3 Rotties and a Maltese) and 3 cats. I was devastated! I had applied the Frontline to him last month and I thought he was protected. I guess not. All I want to know is how can I get rid of them, and how harmful are they to my dog and to me??

Received the sad story of this dog's demise in an email. I was stunned and wondered how many other dog owners were unaware of this situation.

I went to our local animal sanctuary to find that they wanted £70 for one kitten and £120 for one dog, I must admit that that did include getting them neutered and jabs etc but I would have got that done myself anyway and cheaper at the PDSA. I realise that they have to be funded by donations etc I just thought that was a bit steep and surely it will discourage people from going to them and more people will buy privately for cheaper, I would have loved to get kittens from a shelter but I cant cough up £140 in one go (want to get 2) and kitten season is over soon so I have had to look privately, I have had a cat before so I know of the expense but it's ok when it's in dribs and drabs.
