my male cat uses his litter tray very well, however, when i move the tray from its corner to clean it out he goes into the corner and pees on the floor! he's 8 months old and has done this 3 times now. Does anyone know why?

hes young. give him a chance. you have to spank him into knowing that is wrong. i had to do that to my cat

He associates that corner as his area to go to the bathroom. If the tray is not there his still knows this is where he goes and does it anyway. When I am changing litter bags my cats try to jump in the litter tray before I have new litter and liner in to use the bathroom. I think they just get excited that something is going on in their space. But, if I reprimand them and tell them no very loudly and get the liner in very quick they are ok.

When they have to go they HAVE TO GO, regardless of where the box is--at least he used the right spot. Don't punish him for going in the right place just because you moved the box on him.

Every time I put fresh litter in ours, there's always a cat ready to be the first one in to poop in it. But there's been times when I've only had the paper down and was outside hosing the box off, come back to find someone already went on the paper. I consider it MY mistake, not theirs.

He is marking his territory. When the litter box is there so is his scent and when you move it the scent is gone so he is just remarking the spot. Try putting a pee pad down when you change the litter box and all you will have to do is throw it away when you put the box back.

He wants to make sure his scent is there, maybe? It might help to have 2 litter boxes, so that as soon as you move one to clean it, you can put down the second one. That way, the spot is always "covered."

It can be a matter of timing. Twice while I was scooping out the box my cat came over and pushed me out of the way so she could use it. She's also come over right after I've finished and made a deposit (sigh). I've learned to clean the box during one of her daily nap to avoid these situations.

Thats his corner, thats where he understands it is where he is to do his business, weather the box is there or not........ It's not so strange
