Sadly two months ago my Cat Cleo passed away. She was a lovely cat who I was very fond of. I had her for 19 and a half years (cats are reallyonly meant to live to 16), so obvioulsy she was a big part of my life.

Now the thing is the house is very lonely, and I miss my cat obviously. So now I have got round to considering getting a new cat. The problem is i'm wondering when it's appropriate to get a new cat.

The reason i say 'appropriate' is that part of me thinks its a bit disrespectful to Cleo's memory to get a cat soon after her death......as if i'm trying to replace her in the way you'd just replace an old TV with a new one. That viewpoint makes me feel awful.

But on the other hand life goes on, and I know there are many cats in need of a good home which i know i can provide, surely there is no need to wait.

What do people think? I know you may laugh a bit that i'm trying not to disrespect my old cat, but people with long-term pets will know that they become family.

My dog started what seemed like labor tuesday at 8:30am she had clear fluid coming from her vulva. She seemed like she was having some slight contractions. About 2 hours later they stopped. About 10:30 that night she started again until 2:00am. Wednesday all day she was fine. Now at 4:00am seems she is doing it again. She has been eating, drinking, normal temp, playing, everything. She also is having a hard time licking her vulva she is so big! Please help? What is going on, I have never seen anything like it. Also, I considered trying feathering. Let me know what you think! Thank you

and the hopeless creature is still breathing and the creature head pointing direct to your eyes and unable to walk or run because it's legs has been shattered by the impact of the car. What would you do, would you pull your car and carried the creature and put on the pedestal, or you would send it to veterinary or you would just ignore it because it's just an animal

"Eating raw bones is as completely natural as eating fresh meat for dogs and cats. They come hand in hand, in the wild. Both dogs and cats are natural hunters, cats always eating their food fresh, and dogs happy to eat fresh, or decaying. Either way, catching and eating prey has always involved the consumption of bones."
http://www.ozpets.com.au/articles/397/FeedingrawbonestoCats.html
"Myth: BONES ARE DANGEROUS AND HAVE NO NUTRITIONAL VALUE.
Cooked bones are quite dangerous. Cooking changes the structure of the bone, making it indigestible and easily splinterable. Raw bones rarely splinter and are fully digestible, even the collagen proteins that some people claim are "indigestible." It is mostly the byproducts of the digested bone that form the bulk of a raw-fed animal's feces. Dogs and cats do not need the fiber from grains and vegetables, and feeding such foods only results in the big, soft, malodorous stools everyone complains about."

I took this photo of a community tank at a public aquarium, and saw these two fish mouth-fighting. Very interesting to watch. Now I'm trying to figure out what kind of fish they are. Can you help me?

hi all. i just wanted to know what's wrong with my dog because her genital area is swollen. at first, i thought it was her period because i saw blood come out of it. my neighbor tells me i need to take her to the vet because what my dog has isn't normal and that she can die from it. i mean, i did notice that she's bleeding an awful lot lately n when she urinates, it has a strong fishy smell. so fro anyone who's reading this, does anyone know what's wrong with her or will she really die from this? thanks.

We recently got our cat from a shelter and have been planning on spaying her. She has been going in and out of heat for the past couple of weeks but we have been keeping her inside at ALL times.--except for tonight when she escaped for the 1st time. She is currently in heat...I think it started today or yesterday and she was gone roaming around who knows where for about 2 hours. I'm wondering if it's possible she could have gotten knocked up while she was out? How easy is it for a cat in heat to get pregnant?

I have someone that everytime I answer a question they give me an automatic thumbs down! I'll go back and look at all the answers, I find it informative, and it never fails that I have a thumbs down and some questions are as simple as... Help naming a female puppy?! I mean it's just an oppinion! Anyone else have someone stupid that does this to them? I posted this here, b/c this is usually where I answer most questions.

My pet cockatiel injured his nail this evening. His nail got caught and partially broke off. He was bleeding quite a bit so I brought him to a 24 hour avian vet. The vet trimmed the nail, stopped the bleeding, and said to watch for signs of illness over the next few days. He told me what to look for but I was hoping someone could let me know what his chances of recovery are. He lost quite a bit of blood but seems to be doing fairly well otherwise. I am just very worried about my "baby".

I bought 4 fish from Petsmart about a month ago- 1 male and 3 females. My male died on Saturday (I called Petsmart, he suspects it was fin rot) , but i noticed that one of my Silvers is pregnant. I've read some of the articles on here and I was thinking of buying a breeding tank, but i was just wondering,I know male fish eat the fry, but do Female fish eat them too? Would a breeding tank be necissary in this case?

Its pouring down rain here and the wind is blowing. He is being treated by our vet for kennel cough. She seemed pretty sure he would get over this in the next couple days. He has been really sick. I just took him out to pee and now he is snoring loudly. He is sound sleeping, but I have never heard him do this before. I just put down a rug for him to lay on and hope he feels better.
Should I humidify his air? Maybe put some vicks in the water?

My dog is slightly under weight all the time and the breeder says he needs to gain more weight. He always has access to food and we feed him a lot of meat. He also ges special dog vitamins. No matter what he eats though he burns it all off. Also he isn't really a chow hound when it comes to food. I'm getting worried about so I think a diet for working dogs that use a lot of energy would be good. Can someone please help.

She just got up from her cat bed, and I noticed that she's favoring her right hing leg and is kind of jumping on the other one when walking. When I touched it (to see if I can spot a thorn or something), she hissed loudly and batted my hand. She never does that normally so, obviously, she's in some kind of distress. She ate normally and is purring slightly on her cat bed now. I'll be calling our vet tomorrow morning but any and all opinions and advice are welcome now!

I'd like the opinion of people who are knowledgeable about cats and/or own cats. Thank you!

How do you grow a java fern? I found an online place to order rhiozomes from, I've heard you need to anchor it on something. I only have a 2.5 gallon tank at the moment so is there any way I could keep it alive in there until I get a 10 gallon? Does anyone have any links about growing the fern? Thanks!!

I have also tried the collar and the spot-on preventative. She is suffering. We sit and pick them off her, but they keep coming back. What's up? Maybe a food additive, like garlic or something fleas don't like?
