Please do not use a store bought remedy, this must be treated properly from a vet. This might not be mites at all. This could possibly be just a female parakeet with a brown crusty cere that is in a hormonal change and ready to be in a breeding cycle.

Feel free to email me a pic to be certain these are not mites at all. You may not have to treat this bird at all. Store bought remedies only prolong treatment at a vets office and cost more in the long run and cost you more money.

That is very common for parakeets to develop. The vet can give you medicine to cure this problem. My vet gave my little Webster (blue parakeet) to help him. He also told me to buy a can of Brewer's yeast (can be purchased as a health store and maybe even at a pet store.) It really works. You just powder your parakeet with this powder, using a powder puff. It is amazing how fast it works. It also keeps any mites from getting to the parakeet.

Hope this helps with your parakeet. My son bought a white parakeet that had a beak that kept growing and growing and he would not take it to the vet, so, of course, the bird died because it couldn't eat.

Keep your bird healthy and it will live a long life.

Scaly-face is caused by the mite Cnemidocoptes Pilae. You need to treat this as soon as possible. In severe cases, it can spread to the legs and even the body, and may lead to malformation of the beak. These mites are transmitted from one bird to another, particularly during the breeding season.
Over the counter remedies are not effective,it may clear it temporarily only to return. Take your bird to a vet for suitable treatment. Scaly-face is easily treated and quickly clears with the CORRECT treatment provided its done early.

You can not get this but get the parakeet some meds pronto ! I can cause the health of the keet to go down unexpectedly , and the keet will die if it gets too bad . It is an infection , possibly transmitted by tiny parasites .

Read everything humor4 says. Do NOT do anything until you know exactly what is going on. Stuff at the pet store is a waste of money.
