I took this photo of a community tank at a public aquarium, and saw these two fish mouth-fighting. Very interesting to watch. Now I'm trying to figure out what kind of fish they are. Can you help me?

The picture is here:

The scale in the picture is a little misleading. The fish are actually fairly large--12" to 15" apiece.

And these are saltwater fish.

Definitely not "kissing gourami's". My boyfriend is in the fish industry. I'll check tomorrow...if no answer that seems right, I'll copy photo and ask him...let you know late tomorrow nite. **I see no new answers here--took copy (came out small). Will ask...no guarantee, but saltwater is his specialty....be back in about 6-6 1/2 hrs....***Okay...got it! He said it's a type of "Grunt" (a snapper-like fish), and said it's NOT a "French Grunt", but some type out of the Caribbean Sea. He said they're called "grunts" because they make a grunting sound when you pick them up out of water. He also said there must be a pattern, if light, but you can't see it in picture, so he can't identify the exact one. I found a picture of a Florida "white grunt" for you, but could be almost anything. The other fish is a "Slippery Dick Wrasse". Here's more info.:

There's a couple of nice photo's in here you can click on and enlarge: http://www.bootkeyharbor.com/Fish%20Guide%20Tropicals.htm
Here is a not so great photo of the Slippery Dick Wrasse:

Hope this helped!!!

really hard to ID, you couldn't upload a larger photo could you? there are a LOT ... a LOT... of fish that will fight like that.

and perch-like silver saltwater fish are many as well, sometimes only identifiable between species by counting dorsal spines. >_<

i had a snoop around fishbase, and it could be a snapper, have a look at the link below.
