i excersice my cat with his mouse toy. i notice that when he plays really hard he starts to exhale loudly throught his nose/whisker area. he does this about once or twice really quick and then is back to silent again. is this a sign of cat asthma or is this just him panting?

i get worried so when i exercise him, i try not to make him play too hard, just moderate. when i can see his heart is beating faster, i stop and tell him to breath and then i start exhaling as an example, and he actually mimics it! i found that helps him calm down his heart rate.

is this normal for cats when they play hard or is it a sign of asthma? im gonna ask the vet next month at his vaccine shots...but Any insight into this would be appreciated thanks.

Hi, thanks for all your helpful responses to my earlier question. My baby seems a lot brighter this morning, he's been to the toilet and eaten and is now sleeping. Wound still looks red, but looks clean and doesn't look infected. He still yelps a little when he walks though. Called vetline for advice and they said to bring him to the vet tomorrow so I;m going to do that. He's sleeping a lot and i'm still worried, anyone else with experience of neutering a 7 month old? like I said earlier he's a bichon, and he is a baby, he doesn't have a high pain threshold at all, he screams at the dog groomers, so it's difficult to tell!

Ok, I have a burnt buckskin qh. I'm trying to sell her right now and one person wants to know how to go about registering her.

However, there is one problem. She doesn't have a branding on her at all!

have 4 cats (including 16 week kitten) and a 9 week puppy. I put cat food in an ice cream container in one room and puppy's food in a low bowl in another room with her pen. Occasionally the cats eat her food but rarely as it's in her pen and is 'no go' zone. However recently my puppy (shih tzu) has become big enough to get her head in the ice cream container and eat some cat food. What should i do???

OK, so I'm just getting over a bout with strep throat and I've noticed that at times the past several days my cat's meow has sounded a bit muted. Can cats and dogs and other pets catch any viruses or bacteria that make humans sick, or has my cat just been mocking me?

Does anyone out there have any idea what the hell this thing is? I'm not for sure it is real, but if it is, it has to be one of the freakiest creatures I've ever seen.

I was talking to a bunch of people at the dog park today and it seems like everyone thinks they have the best dog in the world. They all agree that most people get one... maybe two super special dogs in their life that they really connect to and understand. Have you ever had that special pal? What makes them special? Is it a certain breed or sex? Is it a rescue or a thousand dollar designer dog? Was it love at first sight or a dog that grew on you as you got to know it? Was your dog easy to train or stubborn? Does your dog do a specific job for you (e.g. herding, service dog, therapy) or is it the unconditional love?

Serious answers from dog lovers only please. More details the better. I am studying anthropology and I am really interested in canine/human dynamic. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Our cat is only three months old, but she has been the solo kitty for the past three weeks. Well, we thought she would like to have a playmate, and we were wanting a second cat anyway, and we felt it would be best to raise them up together from kittenhood.

Well, we found a 2 month old kitten that we thpought would be a perfect match. I have read over and over that when you bring a new cat home, to keep them in seperate rooms at first and to slowly introdue them to eachother. Well, I was at work when the new baby came home, and my fiancee just let the new cat out loose with the old cat.

The older cat at first was confused and upset, but then she just seemed angry. She hisses and swipes at the kitten any time it comes near. We thought it would have gotten better by now. It is a tiny bit better, she seems to tolerate her more, but just barely. She really doesn't like her.

What do we do? I am not goig to give up either cat.

I give him plenty of food, and he ends up flipping it over all the time. I refill it every time. But now I'm getting to the point where I think I'll just super glue it to the cage so he stops wasting food.

I thought maybe he didn't like the food I was giving him, so I bought something new... nope. Still doing it.

I am looking into getting a corn snake, but I don't want to get one from Petco or something...I've never had luck with pet stores so I'd really rather just find a breeder or something. I don't even know how to begin looking - every search so far has turned up breeders far away and I would rather be able to go to the place and get my snake myself, not have it shipped! Does anyone know how to find a breeder somewhere close to me (my zip is 60915)? I can't seem to do it, maybe I'm not looking up the right info?

What is the average age a dog will get heart worm??? I have a 2 yr old dog that is very HYPER and happy but he has a cough that sounds like a cat with a fur ball. He went to the vet last weekend to get kennel cough treatment( 2 injections and antibiotics) but he is still coughing. He had his heart worm tablets 3 months ago and is due to get more but should i give him the tablets if he might possibly have heart worm...Please dont say go to the vet as atm i cant afford it and was wondering if i can give the heart worm treatment now and he wont die of a heart attack if he actually has heartworm. I dont think he does because at the moment he is very active like normal and he only has a cough that occurs about once every two days so its not often he has it. He only recently got this cough and do you think that this might be because of the change in season ( its spring in australia ) thanks !!! will deffinetly choose best helpful and not rude answer!!!

i have a pit/husky mix and he has a MAJOR hot spot on his back. it's to the point where he's pretty much bald. he even chews on his tail to the point it sometimes bleeds. i've had a lot of people tell me that putting burnt motor oil on his back where he chews will help his hair come back and it may help his skin. but does it really help?
