I think you are asking if a domestic cat can have rabies. YES! Ask the owner to show you proof that the cat has had its shots. Here in the U.S. they get a little metal tag with an expiration date on it when they are vaccinated.

If the cat doesn't have a current vaccination, wow...I don't know what to tell you. If it seems at all sick, DEMAND that the owner take the cat to the vet and SEE YOUR DOCTOR.

If the owner refuses to cooperate and you are worried, you might want to involve the police or animal control. Most communities have laws about vicious/dangerous animals.

The incidence of rabies in domestic animals in the U.S. is extremely low, but you don't want to be that one person in a million who gets it, you know?

I wish you luck.

It CAN but it's not that common.

Wash the bite with soap and water, then go in by a doctor and tell them you've been bit. There's a shot they can give you to stop any bacteria from making a problem in the wound.

I've been bit before, if the area doesn't puff up after washing, and it's not hot to the touch, it's ok. If it gets hot or you see a dark line in a vein going away from the wound, definately have a doctor look at it.

But as for rabies, the chances are very low. If the cat wasn't acting sick, looked ok, and didn't bite without you trying to handle it, it's more likely the cat was panicked and wanted to get away rather than be sick with rabies.

Since you say it was owned by a neighbor, ask the neighbor if the cat was vaccinated against rabies. If it was, it's not going to be carrying the disease. But do watch the condition of the wound, bacteria from a cat's mouth can be a problem in bites.

If you live in Australia - no unless that is the first case of it. An animal with rabies will not be able to drink so if you have seen the cat drink then I don't think it has rabies.
