Hi, thanks for all your helpful responses to my earlier question. My baby seems a lot brighter this morning, he's been to the toilet and eaten and is now sleeping. Wound still looks red, but looks clean and doesn't look infected. He still yelps a little when he walks though. Called vetline for advice and they said to bring him to the vet tomorrow so I;m going to do that. He's sleeping a lot and i'm still worried, anyone else with experience of neutering a 7 month old? like I said earlier he's a bichon, and he is a baby, he doesn't have a high pain threshold at all, he screams at the dog groomers, so it's difficult to tell!

It will take time for the G/A to come out of his system, so he is going to be a bit sleepy ect, +he is only a pup, by tomorrow he should have picked right up. He will yelp. its on the same par as when a male gets steralised.bloody painful. Long as the wound is nice and clean, he will be fine. He is just being a dog, that probably dont like being groomed ect, he will soon to learn to enjoy, long as he does not have a bad expericance with a groomer. Give him time and he will settle.

aww bless him as you say he is only a baby and he probably doent know why, just that he is .hurting , as you are taking back to the vet tomorrow i would say all you can do for now is make a big fuss of him give him cuddles if it wont make him cry out and generally keep an eye on him.He may still be sleepy with the after effect of the anethsetic so try not to worry too much ,and puppies do tend to sleep a lot anyway. if the wound looks red but clean it should be fine, dogs heal from the inside out .so the ouside will look red for a while ..humans heal outside in thats why we scab over quickly. i hope your puppy is ok and he is just being a typical male cry baby xx

No disrespect but yes I have found htat Bichons are a wip.
from what you are saying now it sounds like he's trying to get extra attention more than anything. Teh rest sounds normal.
This is also an important time and this is what makes the dogs fat not the neutering but the babying. do not feed him extra or give a lot of extra treat . this is what often put on the extra weight

I work at a vet and I have never had a dog react to a neuter the way you are describing. Please do take him to the vet tomorrow and keep an eye out for infection. It usually takes less than 24 hrs for them to come around from being out. Surely they sent you home with an antibiotic and something for pain. The next day as long as they stay dry, they can resume normal activity. good luck to you!!!!
