To be honest with you, I've been writing and re-writing and deleting my answer for the last hour. Because they were soooo long. Believe it or not this is the scaled down version. In a nut Shell we had one named Clarence, and he was beautiful. We were foolish back then and never did any research. We had an opportunity to get one and we jumped on it. Big mistake. He had 2 eye entroptions, countless battles with swelling of his hind legs and severe fevers. Not to mention the horrible ear infections and the amount of money we spent on a monthly basis to control them. He was so miserable and so were we. He literally would rip the skin from the top of his head off from the pain and itching. The Dr. finally told us that we needed to put him down. Something he has never told anyone to do under these circumstances but we had a 1 yr old at the time and his concern was more for his safety. He explained that the dog was bred purely for fighting in China. They are a very strong breed and he was afraid that if my son hit him in the ear the out come would be devastating. Finding a home would be difficult because no one really knew much about the breed and with his medical problems added another blow. The breeder turned out to be a putz and had no intentions of helping us. So, that's what we did and it broke my heart. But oddly enough, I never regretted my decision. Ever. Clarence was only 4.

Yes, this is very common. The surgery is required because the eye lashes start growing towards the eyeball, and it hurts, causes the eyes to get irritated real bad, and it's just the way their eyelids grow, it's a weakness of that breed. A friend owned a Sharpei, had the surgery, along with a couple other health issues. They can sometimes be an expensive pet.

don't know about their eyes, but all the sharpei's I know are prone to ear problems because of the tightly folded ears they have that doesn't allow much air to get in and if they get wet in the rain or bath you have to make sure they are thoroughly dried out.

Oh,yes they do.Entropion, when the eyelid turns in toward the eye, causing the lashes to rub on the cornea,is quite common in Shar-peis and other wrinkled breeds. The surgery is necessary to prevent your dog from going blind due to corneal ulcerations. After the surgery, she should be fine.

yes because the wrinkles normally annoy the dogs eyes. the wrinkles surround the eye and dead skin falls into the eye easily

yes they do. their rolls damage their cornea by rubbing them. u should take it to the vet so they can pin it back. it's a simple treatment were they sew the eyelids back. (they use anthistetic, and yes, it's legal.)
