Our cat is only three months old, but she has been the solo kitty for the past three weeks. Well, we thought she would like to have a playmate, and we were wanting a second cat anyway, and we felt it would be best to raise them up together from kittenhood.
Well, we found a 2 month old kitten that we thpought would be a perfect match. I have read over and over that when you bring a new cat home, to keep them in seperate rooms at first and to slowly introdue them to eachother. Well, I was at work when the new baby came home, and my fiancee just let the new cat out loose with the old cat.
The older cat at first was confused and upset, but then she just seemed angry. She hisses and swipes at the kitten any time it comes near. We thought it would have gotten better by now. It is a tiny bit better, she seems to tolerate her more, but just barely. She really doesn't like her.
What do we do? I am not goig to give up either cat.

cats become more territorial as they get older, so its probably good that u are doing this now..
the answer is, simply, Time... they should eventually get used to each other....
i think while they get used to each other, just make sure each one has their own "place" a bed, pillow, room...etc..
somewhere to go til they get used to the other cat...

It's hard to make cats "getalong". But they act funny. I used to think my cat Kitty hated my cat Hemi. But often when I would come home from school they'd be laying on the window sill all cuddled, when Kitty would see me, she would paw at Hemi and run off. They were friends, haha, Kitty was just ashamed of it for some weird reason. Now if they fight violently all the time, there's not much you can do to train a cat in terms of social ability other than just show it lots of love and attention early on (the earlier the better) and hope they turn out right.

Older kitty is making it known who is in charge.
If older kitty does not have claws, or you are planning to get older kitty declawed, just let them settle their differences. I had the same problem and it seemed to last for months until a friend came to visit with his dog, older kitty got between the dog and the younger kitty as if to protect the younger one. Then went back to beating on the younger one later that evening, just like sibblings. Who could have guessed it even cared. No matter what, they will fight and eventually get along with the random fights (usually from my experiences at 3 in the morning)
Don't despair, let them be. just put down 2 plates of their food and once they are both neutered and declawed they will settle down, then beware because you will be outwitted and become their slaves. But that is the joy of being a cat owner. >smiles<

Give them some time,
If they fight let them fight, but watch them! Sometimes it can get to violent, I have a 7 month cat and when I brought in a new kitten she hatted her, I gave it a month and it was just getting worse and worse, the cat tried to kill it when I wasnt there to watch ( no joke) cats are jelous creatures, sometimes they can overcome it and really get along and sometimes you need to find another home for a kitten
Good luck

your cat may seem to hate the other, but in reality he/she is just jealous because he/she was all your and then you bring someone else into its territory!!! Eventually they will get along, and even though they seem like they hate eachother they really dont! Wait until you cant find them and sneak around the house...you'll probably find them taking a nap together or something!!!

I have had the exact same problem with my cats!
Trust me.....they will learn to like each other! Just give them a lot of time. Make sure you devote equal time to each cat and give them both a lot of loving. They will eventually learn to tolerate and probably like each other!
good luck!

It will just take a little time. I think it's normal for some hostility to be there at first, but things should get better naturally, especially because they're both young.

i dont think they will ever get along. i had two guinea pigs. they were together since they were born. then when they were four months old, one died and i brought a new one into the picture. this was four years ago and they still fight. but not as much. so i dont think they will be bonding anytime soon. maybe later on..it might calm down. but dont get your hopes too high.
