Since the answer of time has been covered, I like to state, absolutely and unequivocally not straight away.
The kittens take drink from their mother as long as 3 months. To avoid unwanted pregnancies, you may keep mum indoors and invest in a kitty litter box. This way the kittens will also learn fairly quickly where to do their toilet.
If you want the kittens to have a really good start in life and build up a strong immune system, you try and leave it for as long as possible or until the lactating stops and she has weaned the babies off.
People and their artificial perspectives on life, its all about common sense. If the mother drives you insane, because she is ready to play with the boys outside and deliver another parcel, you can reconsider. Try nature's way for as long as possible. Personal insight based on 30 years experience.

As soon as the kittens are weaned,at 8 weeks. You need to keep the Mom indoors until then, because she can get pregnant right after having kittens, which would make her 8 weeks along and it would be too late to spay her then.

She should be spayed 10 days after she weans her kittens. Our clinic will not do it sooner as it is too high of a risk to the mother if she is actively lactating. The kittens can be spayed at 8 weeks or 2 pounds, whichever comes last.

Mom can be spayed after the kittens have been weened and her milk dries up. Kittens should be nursing until 8 weeks, when they can begin to ween, it usually takes approximately 2 weeks for mom's milk to dry up.

At least 6-8 wks. is safest for mom to be spayed, ... it gives time for her internal female parts' swelling to recede and also time for weaning of kittens.
It is riskier and more complicated a spay-job for vet when mom's reproductive organs are not back to normal.
