I am seriously thinking about getting an African Grey, a Congo one with the red tail feathers. I have searched the net and read a lot but need owners advice. Am I making the right decision considering that:
(1) I have a wife and two kids, 19 and 10. We are a very calm family leading a calm life and are all excited about an African Grey. My 10 year old boy is a calm child. Our evenings tend to be around the TV or at our 4 PCs.
(2) We live in a fairly large apartment and the parrot would be literally one of the family with lots of space and lots of attention too.
(3) Please tell me what you think of this site on African Greys
http://www.parrotcare.com/parrots/index.html
(4) They are 5 hours away by car. Could the 12-week bird take this long journey !?
(5) Would we need to put some net on every window so the bird does not escape ?
(6) are they prone to any illness.
(7) Are they easy to keep or troublesome ?
I love parrots in particular A Greys. Thanks

I've had several nasty e-mails sent to me here when I've stated in answering a question that it takes money to care for a dog or any pet for that matter. The e-mails have been to the tune of "all they need is love" and "you're mean".

I've also been told the same face to face.

Too many people without sufficient financial ability with dogs and then they try to "cure" illness themselves.

I don't mean one has to be rich but one needs a decent, steady and predictable income in order to properly care for a dog or any pet. Do you agree with this or disagree?

I have an around 14 month old Miniature Italian Greyhound.
She hasn't had all of her shots.

This evening I was playing with her when i noticed that between her vaginal area and her stomach http://seklym4.t35.com/hello.jpeg had swollen up and had become kinda hard. It feels chunky as though it was filled with play-doe chunks. I'm not sure if I am going to need to take her to the vet.
please help me possibly save my dog's life

I need to take her to the vets to have it lanced, but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how much I should expect to pay for the whole procedure.

I had my mother stop at the library after work this afternoon to pick up a list of labrador retriever books that Id like to read. We are going to be getting a pup soon.

She was having a conversation with the librarian who then told my mom that black labs are "vicious"....

I have never come across a black lab who was mean, but Ive only been around a couple...

I know labs are not mean animals so that statement seems ignorant. But, do the black ones tend to be "mean" at all? Or is this a bunch of nonesense?

Ive been hearing that alot of people think *any* large black dog is scary and are put off by them so they tend to label them. Is that true?

Hi
I just got a baby cockatiel from the pet store. I was told it's less than a year old. Anyway it's the second day I have it, and I noticed that the bird smells funny. I had a budgie before and those didn't smell the day after I got them. Could it be what the cockatiel is eating?(it's cockatiels mixed bird seeds)

The cage is brand new, never been used before either. Also i don't know when the storeowners gave it a bath, but it didn't smell when we purchased it. I can't give it a bath yet cause it's afraid and doesn't trust me yet

Does anyone know what is causing the cockatiel to smell?

My cat's eye won't open and she's sleeping more than usual. I'm planning on taking her to the vet, that's not what I'm asking. It's just that it's the weekend and I was wondering if there's anything else I can do until Monday when the vet opens?

She LOVES going into the windows, but every time she does, about 2 minutes later she starts licking herself like she is covored in bugs. I check her constantly for fleas, ticks, mosqitos, ANYTHING that could be bothering her. I dont know if it is just the wind tickling her fur, but i would like to now if anyone thinks this could be something to know about. She does act like she has ADHD not kidding. But i have not gotten her tested for it, do you think this could have anything to do with it IF she has that?

Thank you

Hi I set up a 24 gallon aquapod marine tank. It has 10.5 lbs of LR and 20 lbs of LS in it. It has been set up since last sunday. I got a product called phos-x from a LFS that was closing. It says it removes nitrates, nitrites, and phospahtes. After my cycle, would it be advantagous to add this to the water? It is a little packet.

Thanks....

BTW, there are no fish in the water, just a few snails and hermits I got for free to aid the cycle.
