He could have what is called 'hot spots'. It is an allergic reaction to something. Could be his food, a flea treatment, a shampoo... have any of these things been different at the start of his issues?

And how sure are you it isn't fleas? Fleas like the warm dark places of a dog best... the groin, thighs, belly... and this is heavy flea season. You can't always see them.

Do you have any Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo? If so wash him with this, lather it really good. Then let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing off. This will kill fleas and you will see them come off in the bath water. At least it's something you may be able to do until your parents get home.

When they get home.. he needs a vet right away.

PS.. does this dog have his dewclaws intact? (the thumb looking ones up high off the paw) if so, check it to see if it was not clipped properly. Maybe his nail is growing into his leg. Common with dewclaws that aren't checked often. That's why most breeders have their vet remove dewclaws when the puppies are just a couple days old.

PSS.. if your dog is a male, you can check to see if he really has to pee by looking to see if there are marble looking lumps to either side of the penis. Not to be confused with his testicles (which won't be there if he's neutered anyhow) but right at the base of the penis it'self. It's a tattle tale sign he has to pee. If they are there and he's still not peeing it could be serious and he needs to get to a vet asap. If not there, he could still have a problem... but at least something you can check in the meantime.

Maybe you can call your parents and tell them of your concern and have them get someone to take you and your dog to the vet if they aren't going to be home anytime soon?

I can't believe how rude people are being to you, you are a young person with a problem with your pet, you want help and people are being ignorant. Listen, hon, do your parents have a cell phone? Maybe you can call them to let you know what is going on with your dog. Is there a neighbor you can call to maybe come over and check your dog out. This does not sound like an emergency, so more than likely it can wait till your parents get home. Calling the vet was a good idea and I am proud that you made that choice. Try getting a second opinion from someone who lives nearby that you can call.

your dog needs a vet today. Not Monday. Today.

----------------------------------

Um, yoo-hoo....don't post a medical emergency and then go off on the people answering your question. You sound about 5 years old "scratching at his pee-pee", well that tells me that there is probably a blockage or infection in his kidney or bladder, especially if he didn't urinate when you took him outside. Sorry it is not the answer you seem to want to hear, but don't post stupid stuff and then rag on the people trying to help your dog because the dog is in serious trouble whether or not you choose to recognize that fact.

I find it hard to believe that your vet told you over the phone that there is nothing wrong with your dog's paw. Is he one of those new psychic vets?
