They'll give him pain meds at the vet and might send him home with meds. Don't give him anything not prescribed by your vet.

I had a female dog spayed, which is a much more invasive operation than a neuter, and they did not give me any pain medication to take home. The dog is completely knocked out for the surgery. I am sure they have some discomfort, but your dog should be back to normal in a day or two.

It is not a big deal, very few stitches. The vet gives him an injection for pain that last for 24 hours, then you can give him some pain pills for a day or two.
I've had many dogs neutered (I rescue) and none has ever had major issues or complications.

Anesthetics are used and he feels nothing during the surgery. There is some tenderness afterward, but nothing too bad. You probably do not need to give him any pain medication. If you are still concerned, ask your vet about dog-friendly medications.
Good for you for having your dog neutered. It will be healthier for him, improve his behavior and prevent more homeless puppies in shelters. Thank you.

It's a common procedure and the dog does not need medication for.
Here's a perfect example:
My 7 month old Aussie was neutered 2 weeks ago. My husband was FREAKING out. We got invited to dinner with a colleague of mine from Germany, he didn't want to go because he thought we should stay home and nurse the dog. I picked up the dog and went home, my husband was already there, the dog ran up 3 flights of stairs and jumped on the bed like nothing ever happened. My husband said "Oh, I guess he's OK...." like he was in shock and we went to dinner.
OK, who had the term the other day for fear of neutering??? Neuterism?

If you spend the extra few bucks for the pain medication not at all. I have 3 neutered males and one spayed female. They all did really well with the pain patch. It was a little more than the pills, but I did not have to keep remembering to give them, plus I did not have the hastle of trying to make them take them.

When you get your male neutered he will be a little sore, however you vet will give you both pain medication and anitbiotics to give him. You must be sure to check the incision site every day and if there excessive redness or swelling get him back to your vet immediately as he will have developed an infection. I had one of my males neutered at 2 1/2 years of age and he came through it just fine. Good luck.

Vets will give your dog pain medications, don't give him anything without asking the vet. However, this is an important and moral procedure, you have every right to know everything about it. Ask your vet all the questions you have and don't be satisfied until you've had them all answered.
Also, just in case you were worrying (some people do...) dogs don't miss being non-nuetered! : )

No more painful than it would be at six months. It is always beneficial to alter a pet. They are less aggressive and less likely to run away.It also eliminates several health risks.

the op is painless as he is sedated. he would benefit from a homeopathic remedy to strengthen recupperation and stop bruising. Arnica 6c given 2 days before the op three times a day. on the day of the op 30c one dose three times that day and the next two days to prevent complications, relieve pain and assist circulation.
Animals recover farther quicker than humans, so don't worry. All the best.

It is not all that painful and most recovery very quickly. Vets can give pain medications too.
Neutering is far less painful and traumatic them prostrate issues, anal fistulas/tumors or testicular cancer.
