Should you pin an Alaskan Malamute?
The American breeder i bought an Al Mal from (for $2000) told me to pin the nose and make the Mal lie flat on it's side (NOT THE ALPHA ROLL ON IT'S BACK) if it tries to be dominant & growl at me or anyone. I saw her do this with a huge 4 year old male, she did it with ease & the dog was instantly submissive for the next 2 hours but ................

Is this something alot of Malamute owners do? I know they suffer from establishing the top pack position via dominance but is this counter productive or fueling feelings of striving to be pack leader more so.

Any experience of this anyone?

Is it ee-quine or ek-quine?
Does it make a difference? Is there and 'official' way?
Thanks

my brother has a st bernard dog that has just suddenly started to miss behave a night, he has been sleeping down stairs with the dog for the past month now while his wife and twin baby boys are upstairs, and things are now getting a lot worse and i'm very worried.
the dog started misbehaving only at night by barging through doors and constantly whinning and the odd bark when the family went top bed, and when he was told to stop it he would growl, then last week he bit my brothers arm but never drew the blood, only on saturday night the same thing happened only this time he bit straight threw my brothers arm and he had to have 9 stitches, they have twin boys that are 9 months old and i,m very worried for them not that the dog has ever shown anyh aggression towards them but i dont think he can be trusted now, my sister-in law feels the same but my brother says he will have him neutered and that will stop the problems they are having.
has any one ever had any experience with st bernard

hi

we were treatig our dog 4 fleas with frontline. for 2/3 weeks. we were spraying the house carpets with RIP spray and hoovering.

at first we didnt think it was working as we still seen them but recently we havent seen any. we got our dog a haircut as well, he's still itchin but we think thats just from the scabs.

trouble is. im scared to put heating on in case it resurrects them. so at the moment we are sitting freezing in our house which is silly as we know the heat can cause them to hatch.

i really hope they are on their way out. but just cos we havent seen any does this mean they;re gone, or eggs r still there? the spray we used on carpets kills eggs aswell (supposedly)

what do we do now...carry on as normal? i still would like to get the carpets cleaned.

please advice thanx

I have just introduced my first 4 guppy fish. They seem to have problems with the air bubble curtain that i have going across the middle, i also have a bubble circle at the front corner, have i got too many bubbles in my tank? Should i stop one of them, or move them. My tank hold 60 litres. Or is it because they only went in there yesterday! Thanks for your time.

well i was telling my older sister about me wanting to change my 12 week old puppy's diet. he is on kibble now and i am very interested in RAW.... but i havent made the change because i want to look in to that more. (i know VERY little) so today i went out and my sister was cooking with chicken breast... i guess she decided to let him try a WHOLE piece of chicken breast!! when i got home my younger sister who is 7years old ran up to me and told me that puppy loved the raw chicken with skin and bones, and that he wanted more, but my sister cooked it all!!! i was kind of freaking out a little, well alot!! seeing that he had ate kibble before he got the chicken. i got upset at my sister because i am not sure if that is okay.... so please, if you know anything about my question let me know!!
thanks

I am looking for some cat/vet experts who can help me with the following. My cat has been very unwell for the last 3 weeks whereby she is going round the house and basically leaking pooh everywhere and is obviously in a lot of discomfort as she is acting very strange. I have been to the vets about 5 times and to be honest I don't think they have a clue what is wrong with her as one minute they will say it is gastroenteritis and then another time will say it is an infection. Over the last 3 weeks my cat has lost nearly a kilo in weight and is not herself at all. Can anyone help as I am genuinely getting worried about her.

Why do my cats have fleas if they are indoor cats? Is it possible they came in through the screen window? And why are they just now getting fleas as fall is starting? They didn't have any the whole summer.

I'm waiting on the vet's opinion right now.. but has anyone else had this problem? She suddenly developed strong pains, and hasn't thrown up or pooed, but her appetite is normal. She is also on a raw diet, and ate a chicken leg quarter last night, a drumstick this morning, and a quarter again tonight. The pains started around 3 pm. Anyone else who has fed/feeds raw see this in their dogs? The vet doesn't think it's bloat.. No haters on the raw diet, please.

i have 3 ,3stripe damsels in a 20 gallon tank with crust coral,A FISH ONLY TANK!! the tank has 2 weeks cycling, and sick damsel is 1 week sick,my reading are ammonie 1.0ppm,nitrite,3.5ppm,nitrate 0,ph 7.8, 1.023.

The first day of sick fish ,2#reading were ammonie,2.0ppm,nitrite,2.5ppm, nitrate 0, ph 7.8.
it look breathing pretty fast so i though because it WAS THE SMALLEST IN THE TANK dat maybe cuz water change, but then near his lip had a white ball, then started growing so, I DIP INTO FRESHWATER for a few secs,n then i put in a diff tank with the 2# reading of water,
but i had NO FILTER ,2 to 3 days his lip thingy went away, put kept breathing fast, n ammonie rise high of course! so today i bough a filter n small air pump, and i had to take his water off his lil tank cuz of the high ammonie,so i put the same water from the main tank. but he still breaths really fast!!maybe faster the last time. im going to dip into freshwater again, also some of my crust coral turn really green?

Death? Did you put him or her to sleep or another way? How old?

S/he ran away?

Did you give or her away?

Took to a shelter?

My cat is only 5 and I can't foresee how we are going to part ways. It's majorly depressing to think about him dying or me putting him to sleep. I almost wish him to run away in a few years! Does that sound awful?

Hi. My friend asked me a question, and i don't know how to answer it, so i ask here. My friend has a 2 year old belgian sheep dog who was very attached to his family (especially his father). His father would come back from work at around 5:30 pm, and just around that time the dog would stand towards the door, anticipating the father to come in and then he'd greet and jump in joy when the father opens the door to enter home. Often the sheep dog would start looking out the window and wag his tail eagerly at around 5:15 pm. Unfortunately, my friend's father passed away in a car accident last month. But the dog still rushes towards the door at around 5: 30 pm and waits there and watches out the window too, eagerly expecting father to come in -- which will never happen again. The dog continues this routine daily and fails to understand the reality. How to make the sheep dog realize that the father of my friend is no longer alive?

We feed our dogs raw chicken bones all the time. They are on a raw diet. I do not recommend cooked bones ever. They do change density and become brittle but a dog should not suffer any ill effects for an occasional accidental ingestion of a cooked bone. Dogs do NOT choke on chicken bones nearly as much as people think they do. It is a scare that has been around for many many years and the truth is that it is just not happening much. Dogs choke on sticks, socks, rocks, kibble, rawhides, toys FAR more often thean any dog ever choked on cooked bones.
If you look around on the net for dogs choking on bones, you will find a whole slew of people stating the dangers of bones but you will rarely find a vet site or anyone with any credibility making these statements.
It happens on occasion I am sure. But it's not an automatic death sentence by any means. Dogs have survived on bones for thousands of years. If bones were so dangerous, dogs would have been extinct eons ago.

I am bringing home my puppy on Thursday. The breeder was using crate training. I have a crate but 3 days a week, the puppy will be alone for 9 hours. I am going to hire a dogwalker that does puppy visits to come once a day. Is that enough? Also, should I use the crate or keep the crate in the kitchen but leave the door open (the kitchen will be gated) and use training pads in case he has to go. Having a walker come 2x per day is a little too expensive....any advice? Thanks.

tonite when I went to get his shot records and his tags from the garage, everything is missing. I have 1 invoice from the vet I accidentally left in my car last month. Can I go to the courthouse animal control office and get his records to prove he is my dog? I suspect my son has taken the stuff home with him and left me high and dry. He thinks the dog is his, but left him behind when he moved out a year ago. He will not answer his phone.
Will I have problems getting my dog back in the morning without his papers and tags?

My male guinea pig, Gus, is losing his hair in patches from 1/4 inch to two inches. he now has three patches, one on both of his back legs, one on the top and there in a new spot that is beginning to bald. I have had guinea him for three years now so he is not a young sprite. i have tried lotions, anti-fungal cream, and bactine once and awhile, but it doesn't seem to help. he does like to groom is back legs a lot and Hera, my dominant female, grooms him too. is this over-grooming, diet, fungus, or some sort of flea, tick, mite or whatever?

I have Mojo in a one gallon bowl - or rather I have two bowls, and he is put in a clean one every week. I have thought about putting gravel in it - so i could put a plant in it - but how would you keep it clean enough to have a healthy enviorment for him?

I dont have the capacity to have a tank now - its just not possible - but is it possible to give my buddy a plant for his enjoyment?
