Please don't breed. Thousands of homeless cats and kittens are euthanized in shelters! There are plenty of cats out there that need good homes.

If you want to get into cat breeding, my best advice would be to go to a cat show and talk to the breeders that are showing their cats. This way you can also see the cats in person and observe how they interact with humans. You can also go to the Cat Fanciers' Association website and read about the different breeds. This website will also tell you when and where cat shows happen. There are a lot of things to consider before you jump into it. I got a Somali several years ago and she drove me nuts because she was so very active and demanding. I prefer something more laid-back, but that's an individual preference.

As a former breeder (Abyssinians) I would suggest you do some research before you decide to do any breeding. Do you have the disposable income to dedicate to breeding? Do you have the room? Why do you want to breed? If your answer here is anything other than the preservation of the particular breed, please consider finding another hobby. Do you understand what it takes to be a responsible breeder? Go to several cat shows and talk with several breeders. Get a mentor. If you are not willing to do the work involved in being a responsible breeder, then please refrain. While responsible breeders are not the cause of homeless cats, many people think we do the homeless cats a disservice by bringing wanted kittens into the world. My mentor summed it up for me. "Never breed anything you are not willing to keep." It is fun, but is not to be done lightly.

There are enough homeless cats out there without you breeding more. PLEASE, don't breed any cats. Volunteer with a cat rescue group in your area. It will break your heart to see all the homeless cats, and chances are that you will end up adopting a cat or two(but remember to spay/neuter).
