The sand falls over the stingrays as they move, they dont "dig" in it, and don't need it. Also they are all peaceful fish and don't need hiding places, considering the stingrays are bottom dwellers and the Gar and Aro are top dwellers.

I thought Stingrays needed sand to dig in? I would at the very least add 2" worth of sand.

No Substrate? No Decor? I think your pets would be alot less stressed and happier in a more natural setting with places to hide. I would think that that could work though. Please give them somewhere that they can feel safe.... You wouldn't want to live in a house with no furniture.
Good Luck!
