My cat's eye won't open and she's sleeping more than usual. I'm planning on taking her to the vet, that's not what I'm asking. It's just that it's the weekend and I was wondering if there's anything else I can do until Monday when the vet opens?

Adding 250mg of lysine (also called L-lysine, in the vitamin section of the grocery store) to her food won't hurt. It helps the eyes and also helps with healing, It's an amino acid. Crush the pill and sprinkle it onto the food, it doesn't have a taste. We use it for our FIV positive cats, it helps eliminate the herpes virus that makes their eyes run. And it's dynamite on human cold sores too.
250 mg is a cat dose per day, but for cats with heavy eye problems you can go up to 500mg a day. Any excess will be excreted from the cat's body.

Take a warm wash cloth and clean her eye you may need to do this many times over the weekend the important thing is to keep a close eye on her because it could be the beginning of an upper respiratory infection (commonly known as feline herpes), if you notice that she's eating less and all she wants to do is sleep you can take a humidifier and place by her, also I've read take the cat into the bathroom and run the shower the steam is supposed to help just until you get her to the vet, also if you're concerned you might want to try and find an emergency vet and take her tonight.

can you call the vet and ask what to do? although you can't take her until later, often times the vet can talk over the phone until she sees her.

just take a little squirt thing and squirt water into her eye, to neutralize the irritant.. hope this helps
