He gets dark because he is trying to defend his territory from the foreign invader (you). If you have an Electric Yellow Lab, you should have at least a 30 gallon tank (which isn't conducive with being moved).

This darkening of colour is a sign that he's stressed an unhappy with what's going on. He should get used to you quickly (my electric yellows' enjoy the cleanings and follow me and the cleaning equipment around hoping something tasty might be stirred up). If he's the only yellow in the tank, it may take him longer to warm up to you - they're social grouping fish and learn from other fishes behaviour exceptionally quickly.

Ur fish is prolly the hybrid kind they make these days...
It might be the blend of a dark and light fish that can change how ever it feels. When u dont clean the tank the fish feels sad and gloomy so it turns dark but when u clean the tank that fisgh is happy thus the bright color.

Hopufully thats helps....

Unliek humans, fish literly wear thier emotions on thier sleeves. When a fish is scared, they can darken thier colors, or even loose them. More than likely this is why it is changing colors. Nothing to worry about.
