It is 100% TRUE. That is why male tom cats have such short lives too. They fight with each other, and end up with really horrible infections in their legs, heads, necks, and ears from bite wounds, and claws (often still in the wound).
If you have a cat, you will greatly increase it's lifespan if you get it spayed or neutered.

Yes, and feral females will try to mate with as many males as possible when in heat. A wild male will kill kittens that aren't his, but if he isn't sure... Also, a litter in this case can have kittens from more than one male.
