Pets - 30 June 2007

My dog is an American Eskimo, and is 16, almost 17 years old. He has always been an outside dog. The last 4 or so years however, we have taken two large dog kennels and put them face to face with a bed inside, so we can bring him inside during the night so he will sleep on the soft bed and we can put a small fan on for him. We live in Las Vegas, NV, so the fan is very important during summer. I also try to wet him down a couple of times each day, and I have tried to cut his hair, but he doesnt sit still long enough for me to cut more than half of his hair.
My family and I are going on vacation for 4 days to California this weekend. We will have somebody watch him, but we arent sure if we should trust our friend down the street to come over and wet him down a couple of times a day(maybe he would if we call each day and remind), or if we should take him to the vet for the 4 days. My fear with the vet is that it will be too traumatic for him at such an old age. Any advice?

Should I be concerned and have her examined by a vet? She's acting fine, but I wonder if I should go ahead and have her checked out. I'm not sure exactly what type of spider it was, I didnt witness it, but my stepdad and my sister did. They said she acted like there was some discomfort at the site of the bite right after it happened, but as I said, she seems fine now. My stepdad said he was sure it was spider. This was indoors, so it was probably the type of spider you'd see mostly indoors. I think they would have said if it looked like a black widow or another spider with markings that are easy to identify. If you've had this happen to a pet or if you have studied in veterinary school, your input would be appreciated. Thanks!

HI I WANT TO KNOW WHY MY 3 FEMALE CATS KEEP ATTACKING MY OTHER FEMALE PREGNANT CAT?

SHE IS NOW SCARED TO COME DOWN TO EAT AND EVERYTIME ONE OF THEM SEE HER THEY BEAT HER UP AND ATTACK HER.

I'M GETTING MAD AT THIS POINT SO I PUT THE 3 CATS IN A CAGE FOR NOW.

IS IT BECAUSE THE PREGNANT FEMALE CAT IS PREGNANT AND THERE JEALOUS OR WHAT.

PLEASE HELP.

Ok, I have a toy fox terrier who is about 7 months old. She is extremley hyper and just curious about everything she sees. I understand this happens with puppies but GOD she's like over the limit. She won't lay down and just play with one toy, she has to sniff around the room hop on my bed, play with my computer mouse, knock down books on my shelf, go under my bead, bite random things in my room and it just gets extremely annoying. Then when shes done explorign and bored she barks and barks and i love her to death but it's annoying. I love her to death, she's nice on walks, great with other people. Even sometimes when i pet her head she will tun around to nibble my hand which can hurt at times but shes getting better with that. Is there anything I can do? She will probably grow out of it but what should I do in the mean time?

I brought my chihuahua to the vet and they said she had an ear infection and when I brought her back two weeks later they said that the infection was mostly gone but she had a fever. We recently cleaned her ears with alcohol and put in the ear drops because she still had a bit of an infetion but now she keeps shaking and going into my closet. What's going on with her?

My small goldfish, which I've had for about one week, are both pooping out this long red string-like substance since last night. One of them has only done it once, but the other keeps doing it. I've heard it might be a digestive tract problem, but I want to know if anyone here has ever heard of this. And if you have, do you know how to cure it? Is it dangerous for the fish? I feed them a little bit in the mornings, and then a little bit at night, and that's it.

I have a 30 gallon tank, with 2 african cichlids. One is a sunshine peakock, and another is a yellow lab. Each of them are about 4-5 inches long, and they seem to be acting normal as always. But i've noticed on the sides of the tank, on the glass, there are very small little, white, beetle-like parasites. They are just big enough to see and there are many of them. Also, there are white worms, about half an inch long. Please help me identify these parasites, how to get rid of them, and if they are harrmless or whatever. Thanks in advance.
