Cats have semi-waterproof coats. They spend quite a lot of time grooming to maintain this condition, and getting covered in water means they have to start all over again! They're not waterproof against getting completely soaked.

Getting wet is just not helpful for a cat. They can swim, and they will if they have to, but going for a dip or getting soaked has no use to them. Haven't you noticed how much cats enjoy being toasty warm, in front of a fire or out in the sun? Water is of no use to a cat, except to drink!

Some cats like water and some do not. Just like people. I do not like to get soaked in the summer except in the bath. One of my cats liked the bath also. Whenever the tub was full of warm water, in she would go. Jumped right in, went for a dip, and then back out.

Not all cats hate water. Some breeds actually like water.

My kitty was looking a little rough so I poured a bottle of my pareve(U) water on him and he didn't mind. Otherwise he has hated if I just sprinkled water on him

They are always clean. They don't need water to have a bath.
