Wow 10 is a big litter. A lot of work for the mom dog. If she is a large breed the pups will really eat up all of her reserves. She should be eating a food especially for nursing dogs. The pups will nurse for about 4 weeks. At that time you can start to supplement mom's milk with a couple feeding a day. We always started with rice baby cereal and diluted evaporated milk. Mix together to make a thick gruel. This will teach them to lap up the food, not suck. After the catch on good to this, then add in some dry puppy chow. Mix it right in with the milk and cereal. Let it set for awhile and it will soften up so they can chew it. Then you can stop the baby cereal and just gradually decrease the milk. They will like this alot.
It would have helped to know if they are a large breed dog. Reason is that they require more of everything than the small breeds. Especially the pups will need extra calcium while they are growing until about 1 1/2 years old. For their bones. So they don't get knocked kneed. Make sure that the pups also have plenty of fresh water once they are not nursing any longer.
The mom will also stop nursing and try to keep the pups from sucking. There is no need to separate the mom and pups. That causes to much anxiety for all. Have a place that is high enough the pups cannot get out, yet the mom can. She will not be with the pups 24/7 by now.

The puppies need to be at least 8 weeks old before they are separated from mom. They will start to move around in a few days. The eyes will be the first to open about 10-14 days. The ears are the last to open, they are born with closed ears also. At about 5 weeks into to nursing mom will slow down the nursing that's when i would start to give them Puppy Chow moistioned and mushy. They generally start to eat on there own once shown the food. I just put them in the food , its rather funny to watch them eat for the first time. Mom will instinctively know when its time to start the weaning process, which may take up to 2 weeks for some puppies. By all means pick up the pups they need physical human contact, especially if they are to be house pets and around children. Mom shouldn't mind if she is used to you, and comfortable around you. You are in for a real treat if this is your first litter. Have fun.. SB

They can be weaned from the Mother when they are about 4 weeks old but you must still allow her to visit them whenever she wants to. She will still have milk enough to top them up after every feed. As her milk decreases her visits will become less frequent.
Start when they are about three and a half weeks old by offering them a little soaked puppy food on a saucer and let them lap it up then gradually increase the food until they are having about 1 oz. each per meal. They should have 5 meals per day to start with. I feed my puppies at 7 a.m. 11 a.m. 2 p.m. 6 p.m and 10 p.m. until they are 5 weeks old then cut out the 2 p.m. meal. When they are 8 weeks old they should be having 3 meals per day, breakfast, lunch and supper.. Weigh the puppies weekly and feed them the correct amount according to the instructions on the packet.. A healthy puppy should gain roughly 2 ozs. per week.
They should be ready to go to their new homes when they are 8 weeks old..
Do make sure the Mum is getting plenty of food, i.e. a good quality puppy food, and plenty of water for her milk production.
She has a lot of mouths to feed so she needs plenty to eat in order to do this.
Good luck with your puppies.

The puppies have to be at least six weeks old before they can be seperated from the mother. At that time the puppies can eat or be feed puppy chow, mix it with water so that it becomes soft enough for them to eat. The puppies being picked up at three days old, i would not touch them for a few more days maybe a week at the most.Good luck with your pups.

The puppies will start to eat moist puppy food at about 4 weeks old. They should be weened by 8 weeks. You can seperate them to new homes by about 8 weeks.

about ten to twelve weeks is the common age to seperate them but the longer they are kept with the mother the better.they will let you know when they are feeling independant.puppy food too early can hurt them more than help them so about 6 to 8 weeks you can introduce small amounts of food as tolerated. just enjoy these cute little guys while you can.

Ok depending on the dog and type yo may need to possibly help with bottle feeding. Keep an eye on tehir bellies and make sure they feel full if not you ;need to get puppy replacement milk and some puppy bottles to help feed. ( If you aren't sure it's best to take tehm to teh vets and make sure they are all doing good ( including mom))
At 4 weeks is when they should start to be weaned
This is waht I do::::
when they turn 4 weeks old at night seperate mom and pups in teh morning give tehm mushed food ( I use Purina One Puppy food and moisten it in water toa soup like consistency) feed this to the pups in teh morning you will need to put their little mouths in teh food or put a little on your finger and put in teh mouth. tehy should take to it fairly easily. Leave this down for about 15 minutes then let mom in she can finish the food and nurse the pups. let her stay with them until dinner and remover her before bed do the moistened food again only leaving for 15 minutes let mom in to nurse and then reomove for the night.
at 5 weeks make the food a little thicker. now feed 3 times a day.
at 6 weeks a little thicker adn start leaving water and a little dry that they can nibble on if tehy wnat. at 6 1/2 weeks start adding some dry to the moist food. at 7 - 71/2 weeks they should be on solid food.
tehy shouldstay with mom until they are 8 weeks old.
I start to worm the pups at 2 weeks 9 wormer form vet ( but check with your vet) shots can start at 6- 8 weeks again check with your vet on this as well.
