He probably loved that dog. I would suggest getting another kitten or puppy. BUT only if you want another kitten/puppy. Sometimes getting a new friend, will help to stop the mourning. But dont just get a new animal just for the sake of your cat. I also think that it would do you good to get a new dog. Or i would try to play with your cat a bit more than usual and to put some type of food that your cat loves, mix it with his cat food.

It sounds like the cat and the dog were really attached to each other. The cat is missing the dog. Give him a few days, and maybe put down some extra tasty canned food to entice him to eat. If he stays off his food for too long than take him to the vet. Most animals will get over the loss and go back to more typical behavior.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your longtime friend. that is really heart wrenching to go through. As for your other furry friend, he is also most likely mourning the loss of his friend. He can sense your sadness as well.He is probably very saddened by the loss. Maybe he feels close to his friend by staying where he lost him. Try bringing him some special food to where he is and cuddle him close more often then I'm sure you probably already do. It is common for them to not eat for a period of time under such circumstances. I bet you are not behaving the same as before your loss, either. You probably don't feel much like eating or sleeping, etc. sometimes, right? Well, they are more human like then you would think. Maybe, you can clean-up or change the area in some way, depending on where this area is that he doesn't want to leave. So he doesn't relate it to the loss. only if you are able and can handle the change yourself. I don't know for sure if it will work or not because all furry friends and companions have their own personality and response. May many Blessings shine on you through this loss and adjustment.

Just get another dog! It happen to us some months ago, when our older dos got very sick and we had to eutanised him. Our other dog, a beutiful 2 years old black lab, spent weeks looking for her companion, another black lab. 3 weeks ago we got a black lab puppy. She is only few weeks old, and she made the difference. The 2 play together and life is back in our 2 years old. This is our story..... and we still have a big picture of our older dog, and we think he is up there having fun with grandma!

This is normal. Your cat is mourning. I am sorry for your loss. I think over time your cat will come out of the funk it is in, but they feel loss too, just like us.
20 years is a long time to have a friend...so I can imagine you are feeling quite sad. Your cat senses that too.
All the best to you!!!

Wow!, 20 years old, Maybe the cat is just grieving, give him some time, he'll be okay. Or, can you get another dog?, maybe that will help. Good luck!

Your cat is mourning the loss of his friend just as you and your family are. Your cat needs some extra love and TLC right now and lots of patience. It's not easy for anyone to lose a friend and your cat is no exception. Poor little guy! Please give him some extra hugs and kisses from me and the Chihuahuas.
