I just read, on line, that a warning has been posted saying don't use any flea and tick drops, such as Frontline and others on white cats--it will burn them.

Does anyone know if this is true?

We've had to travel in the car with our cat in order to move. The foam appears to be a clear, bubbling substance, like her saliva, which streams out of her mouth and clings there if not removed.
I have assumed it means she is stressed or is dehydrated. Does anyone have any clearer answers as to what the problem may be?

Our cat, Tigger, has lived a long and healthy life up to a few months ago when he began having serious health issues. We are now faced with the fact that it would be better for him to go to Kitty Heaven and meet up with his lifelong friend, CoCo who died 2 years ago. We are just beside ourselves at having to put him down. We have spoken with his vet who is agreement with our decision. Yet, we are having trouble dealing with the guilt that we are making the decision of his life - even though we don't want him in pain any longer. Can someone point me to a website that helps people in their time of loss of a pet? Thanks.

I have a almost 5 month old yorkie/toy fox terrier. I know that being a pup she is still using her teeth to explore, but lately she's just gone up to people we've had over and just nipped their hands and doesn't stop even after we've said "NO BITE" and tried many techniques to try and teach her biting is wrong. We've tried the holding the mouth shut and saying "no bite", the "OWWW" technique, the standing up and leaving the room, the tap on the head and "no bite" (which I hate doing), even the finger holding down the tongue. None of them seem to work so is it ok/humane to get her a muzzle especially for when company is over cause it has gotten to the point where people don't like to come visit cause they know the pup will get nippy. She also likes to just nip me all the time, I have many cuts and teeth marks on my hands from nips. Is it ok to use a muzzle to try and teach her not to bite? What kind work the best and how long should I use it? Or are there other no bite techniques?

In my time spent working with German Shepherds, I've noticed that the most unhealthy dogs are those bred specically for conformation. If the so called, "slant-backs" of American show lines and "banana backs" of German show lines have been produced in pursuit of greater conformation, how can any rational person still defend this as a suitible goal for breeding?

What is the value in a breed standard if it produces dogs that can't work due to a lack of drives and physical health? Why value form over function, and isn't that backwards?

I'm sure that many disagree with me, so please state your case and discuss...

...and don't give me some lame argument about how producing the correct angles and so forth will produce dogs suitible for a given task. That may sound good in theory, but it has proven to be pure B.S. in practice.

morally and/or legally?

i took my puppy to the vet yesterday because he had a reaction to his vaccines, and while i was waiting to pick him up after work, a man was picking up his female dog who had just been spayed.

the vet tech whispered to him, and yes, she was pregnant, as you suspected, so she needs to take an antibiotic.

i think it affected me a little.. how sad? i mean.. the puppies may have ended up euthanized anyways because of the unwanted pet population.. but it seemed so awful to me..

and the mother dog, wouldn't this affect her hormones? wouldn't she have instinctively known she was pregnant?

any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated

I just started using tap water that has been aged for about 24 hours for my betta. Prior to this I have been using tap water that has been conditioned with betta conditioner. Do I still need to add betta conditioner to the aged water, or does the aging process make it safe enough?
If I need to add betta conditioner to the aged water, then should I put the recommended amount of should I reduce it by 50% or so?

(i'm not saying this is what i believe.. first off.. just a thought i had..k? no hateful answers lol)

i was thinking about it, as i was walking my dog and wishing my husband was home for a quickie, and i thought, wow, all these poor animals.. we fix em and keep em away from other animals.. and unless they are breeders or get loose, they don't have much sex.. in fact, most animals don't get to have sex ever in their lifetime.. i know its great and all to prevent unwanted pets, but is it cruel to prevent them from this natural instinct and force them into celibacy?

or to deprive cats of the instinct to hunt? unless ya get a mouse in the house or something, kitty doesn't get to hunt.

or a bird from flying? keeping it in a cage?

is it cruel? yes or no and why?

my male betta, that hog! is eating the eggs!!! i know they eat SOME that are rotten or not good but not ALL!!! yes he ate every single one of them!!! this is the second breeding for both of these betta's and they were slick this time around and everything went smoothly except that he ate them all! Why is that??? he strictly eat blood worms which is nothing wrong only that i'm afraid that he doesn't get enough nutrients from them so i've kinda starved him to eat the pellets but still he doesn't. he goes to them even puts them in his mouth but spits them out again after a while almost as if he can't swallow them. Is there anything else i can do or is there anything i'm doing wrong? the fist time he was a good dad...what happened....oh!! and while i'm at it.....HOW LONG AFTER BREEDING CAN U PUT THE TWO SAME BETTA'S TOGETHER AGAIN??? I wouldn't be surprised that he was that hungry to eat all the eggs.

I've had my female betta for about a month. She is in her own tank, a nice size, with special water from bottles called "Betta Water" that has already been treated. I've noticed that she lays on her plant and sticks half of her face out of the water. The first time I saw that, when I removed the cover because I couldn't find her, it scared the crap out of me because I thought she was dead. I poked her and she darted off and started swimming around and ate and was all normal. In the beginning she used to sleep in her castle, now it's just at the top of the water. Lately I've been seeing her just float at the top without even being on her plant. She's not floating sideways or anything, just aimlessly and lassily. She's fed according to directions. Her body is a light pink and her fins are a dark red. This morning I noticed that the dark red in her fins are fading. I don't know what that is from because I take good care of her and her water. The lid does have a light on all the time.

I have two zebra finches. One girl one boy. I came back after a two hour trip to town to find all their wooden perches with what seems like blood stains on them. Both their vents and bottoms are clean as usual and there is no change in behaviour. The blood (if it really is blood) washes off easily off the perches. I don't know what to do. What could have caused this? Please help!
