You can't *make* a cat do anything. However, with a lot of patience, you can possibly train a cat to do something. I would suggest that you get the book 'CatSpeak' by Bash Dibra. In it, he includes information on how to train cats to do tricks like shaking hands, sitting up, and so on. These basic guidelines can help you in your goal.

Considering your reasons for teaching her this, you might want to consider a cat-flap instead. You don't want her leaving the door open and letting in all sorts of critters - bugs, mice, etc.

Are you serious? Pretty much the only option that you have if you're that lazy is to install a cat door. There are 2 different kinds that you can use. One is where you actually have to put a hole in the door, just like a dog door. The other one is a new product I saw at Pet's Mart and it fits in a window. You close the window down on it, like a window a/c unit. It's pretty cool. It keeps the cold/hot air from coming in through it and your cat can go in and out whenever it wants.

It depends on the cat. You can teach them tricks but it takes longer than dogs sometimes. If the handle is too high i doubt it, try getting a cat door and the cat will find out how to work it.

One of my cats does open a few of the doors in the house, but not all. He only opens one when he wants to see the other side.
So first you need to "prep" the door.
It needs to not stick anywhere, other wise he can't do it. It needs to be a swing out. They crack the door and push out. I have never seen a cat pull open a door.
The door needs to have a lever, not a knob. He needs to be able to pull down on it.
My Good Boy gets the storm door open a crack, and goes out. Problem is he can't get back in! He can't open the main door, it swings in.
I wonder, if you put pull ties on the levers, would he be able to pull down the knob and pull open the door?
Your best bet is to put in a pet door in the back. It's very easy if you have a sliding glass door.
Good Luck.

You may have to get a pet door and install it and teach your cat to open and close it whenever she wants to go out.

You can't make a cat do anything. Too independent. But they can be trained. Have to talk to a professional about that. I have a doggy door for my dogs and the cats use it. They learned on their own.

The cat I had when I was younger could open doors. I did not teach it, it just did it.

We had door handles, not door knobs. It would jump up, hang off the handle, and get the door to unlatch. Then use its claws to open the door.
