If she is arching her back and hopping away when she encounters a family member, I would most likely think she is "practicing" being scary. If there are no other kitties in the house to practice her cat-skills with (like hunting and defending herself), she will use the humans in her family to practice these things.

As for running into the couch face first, cats don't have breaks. They can't stop on a dime. My 9 year old cat still runs full force into something on occassion because she was not able to stop in time. Its amusing. It's more practice for real events such as hunting or escaping danger. It may even be fun for her to test the limits of speed and stealth. One day, she may jump and cling to the furniture to solve the problem of running into it.

Cats are not born knowing how to be cat-like. Just like human babies, they are normally educated by thier mom on how to stalk, hunt, catch and kill prey. It could also be that your cat is trying to "catch" your furniture.

You could try providing her with toy mice, balls and various other things to entertain her and help her hone her skills.

If you think these two things are linked, have her checked by her vet. The only problem I'd suspect mildly is a vision problem, based on the informaiton provided. I highly doubt this because cats recognize thier family by sight AND smell.

Bottom line, she sounds like she's just being a kitten, but if you are still worried, a visit to the vet won't hurt.

Not stupid, she's just having a little fun. Many kittens play at being scary towards their people, or play hunt them and try sneak attacks. Also, my cat use loved getting a full head of steam and sliding into things. In both cases, nothing for you to worry about. When she's in that mood try to play with her. She will tire herself out before long and take a cat nap.

There is nothing wrong with her at all. We have a 8 month old kitten who a little while ago used to do the exact same thing. But he has grown out of it now, it's just the kitten being silly, just like a child really. Dont worry about it...

She's playing. Welcome to the kitten "naughty" age as I call it. She will calm down in 4-5 months. Meanwhile, she likes to be chased around, to chase you, etc. So get her some toys and perhaps a kitty companion. I wish I had gotten 2 kittens when I found my cat. They are much more normal and they play with each other, otherwise they are too attached to you and they need to do the silly kitty-play with you.

Just show her lots of attention and talk to her all the time. She will be well adpated no matter what if you do that. You don't have anything to worry about. Cats are silly sometimes and she's just being silly.

She's just playing. That's what kittens do. My cat does that too.
